Ya'll ready for the first AI cut movie trailer?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJEzuYynaiw

http://www.indiewire.com/2016/08/morgan-trailer-created-by-artificial-intelligence-ibm-research-1201721886/

quote:

Can a computer be capable of original thought and of creating something on its own? Probably not, but scientists can collaborate with machines to get a better understanding of what humans like and what scares them.

20th Century Fox’s new film, “Morgan,” is an A.I. horror thriller about an artificially created humanoid who’s existence is threatened after she attacks one of her creators. Taking their film to the next level, the studio teamed up with scientists at IBM Research to create the first-ever cognitive movie trailer, and learn what keeps audiences at the edge of their seats.

Using experimental Watson APIs and machine learning techniques, the IBM Research system analyzed hundred of horror and thriller movie trailers. Then the artificial intelligence system watched “Morgan” and suggested the top 10 best moments for a trailer to be edited together by an IBM filmmaker.

The result is astonishing, giving the new A.I.-created trailer a darker tone and adding new scenes that the official trailers didn’t include.

“Watson was able to model the scene visually to determine, was the scene scary? Was it a tender moment? Was there sadness or happiness,” explained John Smith, IBM Fellow and Machine Vision, in the video below.

A.I. has also previously been used to co-write a horror film, as it was the case with Greenlight Essentials’ thriller “Impossible Things.” The studio has been developing an A.I. that can break down movie plots and connect those plot points to its audience’s tastes using something called Natural Language Processing (NLP). It launched a Kickstarter page back in the beginning of the month to help fund its advancement.

Though in IBM Research’s case they used A.I. to just piece together one clip to market the film.

Check out the A.I.-created “Morgan” video below, which also features an in-depth look at how Watson created the suspenseful trailer.

“Morgan” arrives in theaters on September 2.

I watched this after working on cutdowns of Morgan for a month. I found it interesting if you want a horror trailer (it's not a horror film). The AI isn't nearly as cutty as we are and let's shots breathe. That creates tension but also can make it look small.

If you had those same "10 scariest clips" to work with, what direction would you have taken it in? Or is that kinda a moot question

I find it hilarious that Watson used the cliche creepy lullaby" in the trailer.

I'd chop the scenes a lot more so it made sense and wouldn't open on somebody laughing (that's a better reaction than an open) and I'd drop all mention of "mother" because who the gently caress is mother?

Good calls. I actually feel like "I have to say goodbye" does a pretty decent job as a final line of hitting the same sense of ambiguous sweetness/menace that the rest of the Morgan marketing it is going for, but yeah, adding "mother" is a clown move that the robot's human spotter should've been there to prevent

I feel fairly confident that the scene in Jaws where Quint tells the story of the Indianapolis will remain a more compelling recounting of the events than this entire movie. On the other hand, Nic Cage.

Feels like there's room for a thread about line deliveries/acting in general, analysing why some are great, why some aren't, method vs. other schools etc... Someone mentioned in another thread I think that Kevin Spacey is the best eye movement actor alive and I gotta second that.

It better. What happened was a loving travesty, and the Navy's treatment of McVay was a disgraceful act to sweep procedural failures under the rug (although there's some speculation it was an act of revenge by Admiral King against McVey's father, a retired Admiral). It's always a good thing to keep a spotlight shining on that kind of poo poo.

Watching those Sully trailers makes me feel like I'm watching a weird alternate universe where Victor Sullivan from the Uncharted games was a airline pilot (yes I know its based off a real story)

Also wasn't there one Shark Week they did a pretty good USS Indianapolis documentary that was basically them recreating what happened with Richard Dreyfuss narrating?

Here is a Sky Atlantic trailer for this show called the Young Pope which looks pretty cool
