In Dragon Age: Inquisition everyone's hair is incredibly shiny. The only fix I've seen people mention is to increase the mesh quality, but for me that just brings the hair from injection molded plastic -> 50% hair 50% brylcream. It's especially gross with facial hair. I have a feeling the tevinter mage party member's mustache is supposed to look suave but instead it looks like he has a bit of tar smeared onto his face.

I loving hate the new companions because some of them force me into a cutscene and make me interact with them. They don't work in the first game because they're too-prominent, too-overwritten. In the second game they try too hard to endear themselves to me, when a good character like Edwin doesn't give two shits what I think of him. They remind me of the Parasites in Rick and Morty because they show up and act like they've always belonged. Not that Anomen isn't already a oval office. With the EE I like the new interface and the fact that it's on Steam in the first place, but yeah, the additional content didn't really blow me away. It's not bad per se, just lacklustre all around, from the writing to the voice acting. And it's strange, the original game had characters that were objectively dumb as hell and one-dimensional, but somehow they still work much better. They just pulled it off.

It's like if you were living in the US, and thought "I don't like this place, I don't like these people, I'm moving to Europe (or, you know, somewhere you want to move to)" and then people were like "Uh you're running away from your problems and engaging in escapism, you should stay in a place that makes you miserable because that builds character."

The Ivalice in FFTA isn't real: it's an illusion made up by the Gran Grimoire based on the setting of Ivalice from FFXII (which is implied to be the Final Fantasy the kids play). That's why the whole purpose of the main quest is to destroy the linchpins that keep the world together. Inco has a new favorite as of 19:35 on Sep 2, 2016 |

Xenoblade Chronicles X is fantastic but I don't think there's a way to access the sweet gamepad map if you're using off-screen play. It seems like there really should be a map option or something to pull it up temporarily to get your bearings but if there is a way I haven't found it yet.

I can't believe that escort missions are still a thing given how universally reviled they are. For example, Just cause 3. Like 80% of the story missions are pointless escort missions in a game built on blowing poo poo up at your leisure. The concept and core gameplay are great, so it's baffling why they throw that all away in the story mode.

Just Cause 2 also had that in spades. "Ahhh you are the expert blower-of-poo poo-up Scorpio, the incredibly capable agent I have been waiting for... escort one of my men from one end of this giant map to another. Don't worry, he has a lot of health so he won't die, but if the vehicle blows up you lose. Here is a tuk-tuk."

They only good escort missions are the ones where the people you're escorting can take care of themselves too so it's more like they're escorting you to someplace.

From what I remember from Last of Us, Ellie was so capable at not loving dying/getting caught on poo poo that she may as well not have even been there. The point is that if you're going to have escort quests, you need to design the escorted AI in such a way that the player barely even notices they're escorting something. Resident Evil 4 was almost but not quite right - you could tell Ashley to hide in stuff so that basically you didn't have to deal with her for set periods of time (right) but her AI was so dumb and the designers so intent on getting you stuck in scenarios with that lovely pathfinding that it made the game wacky, zany Resident Evil experience frustrating as hell sometimes.

I've started playing Xenoblade Chronicles on Dolphin with a gamepad, as I heard it was better that Chronicles X (which I thought was great), but so far it definitely feels like it's aged. The lack of a bestiary is especially annoying, and I'm feeling the inability to jump as well. Also I don't like not having quest markers to find the more out of the way key items. So far I'm glad I didn't actually buy it online, as all the prices are ridiculous now (£50 for the first one, £80 for Chronicles X) and so far, this doesn't feel worth £50.

I'm having an okay to good time with Dragon Age: Inquisition. But there's a couple of things bugging me. First of all is kind of in general to games with character customization. All of your customizing/armor recoloring happens in a dark green void and it's impossible to tell what things are actually going to look like. I blew a few fairly rare resources coloring parts of my armor dark red only to find that it was actually a kind of shiny orange. I had to reload a few times to actually find the dark red material. Why do developers still insist on this sort of thing? Fallout 4 at least got it right by having your character creation take place in a bright room, so hopefully this will be more a trend moving forward. Also I was hoping to become a Rift Mage, but it seems like all the prestige classes are gated behind fairly rare drops from enemies that don't respawn, or respawn very infrequently, and I only have two out of the three things I need. So gently caress me, I guess.

The thing dragging Xenoblade down for me: I start playing the game and get pretty far, then all of a sudden there's another game out that I want to play more. So I abandon it and focus on the new game, then weeks later I go back to XBC (assuming yet another game I want doesn't come out), load my save and realize I forgot so many things (how to navigate the areas, where and when quest NPCs appear, etc.) that it's easier for me to just start the game over from scratch. I have done this 5 times.

Also I enjoyed how the quests in Chronicles X altered the world around them beyond the basic helping people thing, and I'm already seeing a little of that with the early quest helping the Nopon kid meet the Human kid .
