Combine fascism with the magic power to turn things into other unrelated things using SCIENCE and you get things that are both stupid and horrifying, like combining little girls with dogs to make talking animal monsters.

What you don't hear is that the daughter/dog chimera from that picture is the second time he's done it. The first time he did it was to his wife, who's literal only words were "I want to die."

A person, whom you trust with your life, asks you to make a sacrifice, or through manipulative means, has you engage in a behavior that would, in their words; "Have a net benefit to your family" And in trusting them, you wind up in a lifetime of pain, anguish, heartbreak and despair. You have been betrayed by the very love that brought you together. There's a special place, for the people who do this.

Let's not go crazy and flowery here guys, you're sounding insane to people who've not watched any of the show but to be fair that episode was legit disturbing. Anyway if you ain't seen it you've got the gist by now: bodyhorror and betrayal by a dad perpetrated on his daughter. Props on a funny/horrible cosplay.

I think most of us used to watch Adult Swim, and they'd always put some anime show on in between the other shows that we wanted to watch. So you'd either turn the TV off for a half hour, or just leave it on and zone out. I remember that episode too. The voice was creepy.

Peak anime would be if it was also porn, and you're supposed to get off on it, and the murdered daughter was actually Hitler but a really cutesey version, and also had massive tits. The ep in question was actually really good. It just doesn't sound so good summed up in one or two sentences with no context.

Yeah, it's an unfair and abrupt description of a great story with a long slow buildup to "what the christ?!". Most of the episode just portrays him as a down-on-his-luck Alchemist trying to keep his government grant past the next review day so he has a nice house to raise his little girl in, with the Elric brothers living in his house and looking after his daughter for several months. His wife being gone seems like a backstory footnote until the reveal, and then everything all just goes sideways in magical horrible ways as you learn just what he's done to his own family twice . It's not something he did at the drop of a hat with no reason because he could. Neddy Seagoon has a new favorite as of 13:20 on Sep 7, 2016 |

Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime that starts off with two young boys trying to bring their mom back to life using magic. It goes wrong, the younger brother loses his entire body, the older brother loses a leg and then sacrifices his arm to take his brother's soul and stick it in a suit of armor. Also, they completely fail to bring their mom back to life and instead succeed in bringing a hideous abomination to life with an open ribcage and exposed organs. It is a monster that cannot in any way be referred to as a human. It's a pretty cool show, I'd recommend it. The fights are neat.

It also doesn't take the road of "we need to find a new way to bring back Mom", instead opting for a general goal of "we need to fix our bodies, and never EVER do anything that loving stupid again."

Yeah, I liked that the Elrics actually learned from their mistakes, instead of just muddling through and doing the same things with MOAR POWER until they miraculously worked like most shonen protagonists.

What seals the deal there is that they go looking for how to make a Philsopher's Stone and then when they figure out how to do it they're like 'Oh my god, no, that's it mom's loving staying dead, this is loving evil' because to make one it takes like hundreds or thousands of human lives to make one.
