Anyway, Riko is probably going to just miss out on the prelims but make it back in time for the actual competition. Also, Dia continues to prove herself as the coolest and the best.

Guys, find a woman who looks at you the way GhostStalker looks at every bald, obese, single 58 year old accountant from Tulsa who managed to win $4,000 by not wagering on a Final Jeopardy triple stumper.

This was a good ep, and just reinforces how based Dia really is, and how cute Ruby was alongside her. Gabaruby!

Also, Mari has no sense of value for normal people and it's great. $1000 a bowl for that Stewshine? Good thing it didn't turn out to be like Mystery Food X like they were playing it up to be. And those eyes, man. Those eyes...

I marathoned both seasons of OG Love Live and the movie in like 2 days about 4 months ago right around the time Final Love was happening. Regret that I didn't get into it earlier, even if a bunch of my friends had, as I remember a bunch of them talking about going to go see the movie last year. Would've loved to go see it with them, especially with all the NYC references that they had in it.

But I've fallen deep into idol hell now. Probably for the best that I didn't dive in earlier...

Sunshine has been amazing every week. I expected it to be good, because Love Live was always a really fun and good show, but they seem to be getting better and better at it with each new season. I love how they took the character-drama aspects that Love Live kind of stumbled on a bit, and made them some of the best and most effective parts of Sunshine. It's just such a well-put-together show.

I avoided the idol rhythm game thread because it seemed to be more about Starlight Stage than SIF when I looked at it the last couple of times.

Currently grinding out this latest Medley Festival, mostly for XP since I already got the SR Eli last night and I know I won't tier to get the Honk or enough points by Wednesday morning to get the second Eli for the idolization. Ground out enough at the last minute the previous token match to tier so I could get one SR Riko after my internet went down a couple hours before it was to end, and then came back up like an hour before the deadline, thank the idol gods.

Still don't have a UR though. But I finally idolized one of my SRs (Magician Pana) on my last Scout 11, also picking up a Ninja Birb. That was a good draw.

Managed to watch the movie today with a friend. It was real nice

Favorite parts were Honoka's dad going nuts and dancing at the end, Nico getting jealous that Maki was getting tips from Tsubasa, and all the scenes in New York

I know right? Makes it all the better if you're actually from here. Like when they went to Kenka on St Mark's Place (the restaurant that Maki took µ's to when Pana wanted to have some rice), although when I went back there a couple weeks after seeing the movie, I was reminded that the decor there is totally not appropriate for Japanese high school girls.

Also, I saw 4 members of AKB48 (don't ask me which ones though) perform at the bandshell in Central Park that µ's ran past at Japan Day last year. And of course Kotori had to take everyone to Juniors for cheesecake. And the TKTS red stairs in Times Square where they performed Angelic Angel, despite the fact that I avoid Times Square like the plague like most native New Yorkers, goddamn tourists and street hustlers there.

Honestly, I would've loved to see the movie when it was showing in theaters, especially since the theater that was screening it was within walking distance of Kenka.

I finally caught up again and the show is pretty good now when it started off pretty mediocre. Now that the characters are better developed and not just mix and match of the original cast and the end of waterfall of wink, wink, nudge, nudges to the original series (the most blatant for me was "Zuramaru" and "Soramaru"), the show is a lot more enjoyable.

I think the biggest problem this series has is that it's pretty much lost it's freshness due to rehashing a big portion of the first series but it's well executed so that makes up for some of it.

I don't think Zuramaru as Hanamaru's nickname would've been that kind of nod since Soramaru is Sora Tokui's nickname - I don't feel like they'd've nodded to a seiyuu like that. Make an in-universe joke that references a seiyuu's behavior, yes (Kotori having the least amount of water in her glass at one of the NY scenes in the movie was a nod to Ucchi's hydration habit, I think I'd heard), but not have a character nickname suggest an old seiyuu's nickname.

Also, sidenote, the rhythm thread is basically majority Deresute/SIF, so def better to talk about it there especially if it's ENSIF stuff goings-on.

The only reference to seiyuu nicknames I can remember is in the lyrics of Listen To My Heart where they call out Soramaru, Rippi, and Shikaco

Ah yeah, those mentions. It's more of a side song thing and not full character canon, imo. But there's still room for them to prove me wrong with however they continue to characterize them.

imo the references to the old show weren't lazy wink wink nudges, but purposeful set-up for commentary on its status as a sequel

Honestly since like episode 7 I don't think the show has been following the og LL format at all. The mid-season idol competition and the 3rd year drama stuff don't really have an equivalent in the original from what I recall.

Also, this show is very good and I'm liking it a bunch.

Just started Sunshine a little while ago, just finished up episode 3. That was almost a really bad ending, much worse than ep. 3 of OG Love Live

Riko reminds me a lot of a friend of mine who's going through the same motivation struggles that she's going through. Ep. 2 and 3 alone are enough to convince me that this might actually be better than OG Love Live

hello
Riko is great. It took me until episode 5 to realize she was my favorite character of the show at that point. I find all her "fish-out-of-water" tendencies fit really well together. She has a lot of them, but none of them feel entirely character defining. She's just a really solid character. I actually thought she would be my least favorite when the anime first started. I was the same way with Nico in OG LL and she ended up being my favorite. Maybe I'll get it right next time if they ever do a third series.

I'd pegged her as the cutest of the new Love Lives, but I suspected she'd be boring and a Umi retread. I'm glad I was wrong and that she's also a very good character. She's probably my second favorite after Dia.
