I think that's just a byproduct of "second/third place populism" sorta situation. Because Reddit's front page votes were so overwhelmingly popular/accessable in their content, just having that population around was pushing the shittier content just out of view. Lacking that, we're starting to see these groups that have always been around showing up more often.

IIRC, TERFs are extremely concerned with any linguistic attempts to differentiate "female" biological occurrences from some inherent, mystical womanhood experience.
