Yeah, stop attempting to inform or substantiate your opinions and just react to everything based on preconceptions and political branding.

Nothing personal, it was more a jab at the argument where politicians pick an arbitrary denominator to justify any public spending like the car ads that want me to buy a subaru for just one latte a day. I would say most of my opinions are recycled from things I've read I guess. You want to see some fishing pictures or something?

Lead out in cuffs posted:So some Vancouver doctor, backed by US health insurance agencies, is trying to make the healthcare system in Canada more like the US system: You could, then, theoretically have a private system which supplemented rather than destroyed the public system, by building more facilities and allowing you to use your resources to the fullest potential. That being said, my understanding is that in practice, the public system worsened in Australia when private health care was introduced.

Compromise solution: have the government open "private" clinics that will be small-scale, emphasize patient care and being nice to fragile rich people, and charge ten times as much for every procedure. Then only open like five of them so the wait times for the "private" self-funded line-skipping healthcare is just as long as the wait for the free one that us plebs get, but rich people can pretend they're getting better service while subsidizing healthcare for the rest of us.

Rich people can just go to another country for their health care. Surely some other country will be willing to exchange their cash dollars for health service. And if they can't afford it, then they aren't really rich are they?

Think of all the infrastructure we could build if we unlocked the asset value of our health care system though.

Insurance companies are there to make money, not to help you out, and there's always something in the fine print they can use to deny an expensive but necessary treatment. The Canadian systems have room for improvement, but the US healthcare system is not something to be mimicked.

Can't remember if I posted about this jackass but now it's even more relevant Small-town mayor with pancreatic cancer feels ‘betrayed’ by health system tl;dr he can't get OHIP coverage for an experimental treatment available in the US so he goes online to beg for money and says some boneheaded stuff like quote:I beat esophageal cancer 5 yrs ago, but can't fight pancreatic cancer now due to Ont. policy. I get why Americans don't want social health. even though if he was in the US things would be identical and he'd still have to beg for money to pay for it
