I paid 22 bucks for my etymotics. Still, I'm not gonna quibble over 7 dollars when it comes to my hearing. I'm that guy who often gets up front in the crowd, as close to the band as I can manage (I've taken a few bruised ribs and poo poo but eh, that's metal shows) and as such end up right next to the speakers. I did that poo poo as a kid with no plugs and while I thankfully don't have tinnitus I have noticed a certain low level of nerve deafness, and my friends have noticed it too. Quality earplugs are the reason it hasn't gotten worse.

Yeah so Anaal Nathrakh was badass. We were pretty much right in front of the stage. I yelled out to Dave oval office and got a 'wot' in reply. Was heavy as balls with strobes and about 5 stage divers at a time. Girlfriend had a good time, although I didn't think to remind her to wear tough shoes as her feet got crushed by big metsl goons a lot. So loving heavy and that guy can come out with some terrifying screams. Good poo poo.

I've seen people in festivals who, despite being next to the speakers, do not wear plugs at all... I can only imagine how messed their hearing must be. I stayed on the front row at Wacken 2008 for 4 bands in a row so I could see Carcass and At The Gates. When I got back to the campsite I was literally deaf and couldn't talk to anyone for the rest of the night. Luckily I could still sleep since Wacken is never that quiet at night, but when I got home the tinnitus would keep me awake at night for a few days until it cleared up. Always wear earplugs now but my hearing is definitely hosed up bit from going to gigs and festivals without 'em. I don't think you notice how unpleasant noises that loud are until you wear decent earplugs to a concert, then take them out while the band is still going. It's physically painful for me now going from a nice earplug volume to barebacking with your eardrums.

The Goatfather posted:new grim reaper?! Grim Reaper owns but I still can't think of them without the Beavis and Butthead videos. There's a funny story about Mike Judge meeting Steve Grimmet. Judge was afraid Grimmet would kick his rear end since he would mock Grim Reaper videos savagely on B+B, but it turned out Grimmet gushed about how funny it all was.

I was only there for Saturday and Sunday, but I had an absolute blast. Angelcorpse, Sacrocurse, Atomic Aggressor, Revenge, Grand Belial's Key, Profanatica, and Morbosidad were all great, but Intolitarian, Void Meditation Cult, and Perdition Temple put on the best sets by far. I'm still pissed about having to miss Sadistic Intent.

drat, Nature Ganganbaikal just can't stop putting new Tengger Cavalry stuff up on Bandcamp. In the last few days he's released "reworked" (and renamed) versions of The Expedition and Ancient Call, and just now a remaster of the older TC album Sunesu Cavalry. https://tenggercavalry.bandcamp.com/album/sunesu-cavalry-remastered I'm not exactly sold on the reworks yet, but this Sunesu Cavalry remaster is pretty boss. Some of this stuff is insanely heavy compared to stuff like Ancient Call. Check the title track or Universe & Shaman. God drat that poo poo rips.

Shameless plug for a friends' band, but I wouldn't post it if it weren't able to stand on its own merits. I'd probably describe it as post-thrash/groove. They have a full-length out on 11/30. http://lostempiresok.bandcamp.com/

So does post-thrash/goove mean they're normal groove in addition to post-thrash or are they post-groove as well? Does post-groove even exist?

I was also reminded of In Flames. 14 year old me would have dug it. As it is I'm just going to say I'm not a huge fan of the drum sound. Snare too hollow, kick too farty, everything else might as well not exist
