So this thread is a hair away from its 150th page, approaching its 5 year anniversary, and no goon has dug even the tiniest of holes yet. A number of you fantasy freaks have threatened to apply for a "dig permit". Yeah sure, government will give you special permission because it's a decades-old puzzle, they don't mind their property being torn up, and they'll fully trust you to follow their hundreds of safety rules and leave their property in a pristine state with no chance of the resulting mound or sinkhole causing anybody to sue them in the future. They'll give you a permit they're in no way obliged to, just because you're curious, and special posters on SA forum can't be just left wondering, can they. Or Slenderman would hunt down those responsible and make their daughters co-star in sleazy porn movies involving bodily fluids and a cup. You know these expectations are bullshit. That's why none of you have actually bothered local councils with a permit application, nor even asked them a single related question. Recently a couple of drunken goons have offered to dig for you. Unless one such goon is not actually joking, and lives within walking distance of a possible dig site, so they can reach it without crashing their car and before sobering up, nothing will come of that either. If any of you actually intend to check your many surmises by putting spade to earth then you'd better do it ASAP because you've aged significantly during the course of this thread already. Mods pls change thread smiley to , until if and when somebody starts digging. tldr: Local government will never grant permits for this. Go dig illegally (make it safe & don't get caught) or keep circle jerking until you die. BigBadSteve fucked around with this message at 19:54 on Sep 8, 2016 |

Yo BigBadSteve I'm sorry you hurt your wrist and also can't dig. I mean I'd be upset too. No need to take it out on a bunch of theorycrafters who don't want to get arrested for digging rando holes on federal land in 2016. Or maybe you're like me and can't risk it for professional reasons, which is totally reasonable. I believe in 36-yo unsolved treasure hunt thread. Some goon will be simultaneously be clever and foolish enough to dig. I refuse to think of this as the Super Hornio Bros 2 of goon treasure hunting!

Or maybe you're like me and can't risk it for professional reasons, which is totally reasonable. The main thing holding me back is the high cost of a plane fare from Australia. If goons shout me the fare, I promise to dig in at least two suggested places. Reputable, safe airlines only, thanks. Which now I think about it gives me more sympathy for U.S. goons who live a long way from dig sites. And good point re many not wanting to risk it because of the legal/employment repercussions. Mods, pls change the name of this thread to "Let's brainstorm possible solutions to a 31 year old unsolved treasure hunt!", then I promise to never criticise it again. Like all of you, I'd be thrilled to read some actual guerilla digging posts. I guess a lot of people have 5-year lulls but get it happening afterwards anyway. I'm thinking of infants, it's a few years after birth I believe before they can dig with their little shovels at the beach or sandpit. Taking big, non-drug-addled risks on the basis of someone else's theory is probably too big an ask. The goon who might actually do the job, I surmise, is one with his own well thought out and "treasured" location theory, as well as the ability, fitness, sneakiness and street smarts to go digging up public places at night. I wonder if such a "renaissance goon'" is lurking somewhere already, or is currently developing into the man of the hour, or will yet be born to be this thread's savior. SUPERMAN'S GAL PAL posted:Or maybe you're like me and can't risk it for professional reasons, which is totally reasonable. Sounds like a poor excuse. I used my work as a cover when I showed up to the site of my first dig attempt. I was decked out in utility worker clothing, saftey vest, bunker boots and tool belt in broad daylight. I thought digging would be a breeze, but the place was swarmed with cop cars and a news van. A guy dressed just like me, posing as a Dept of Transportation worker, was sitting in handcuffs. I stashed my gear and went in for a closer look and the sheriff told me they just apprehended someone on the most wanted list. I got cold feet for awhile, but I eventually went back and did the dig on a cold and stormy night when people would not be about. My dig turned up nothing and I learned that I had to go back and rework my solve. These puzzles are not easy, but not impossible. I'm certain someone is going to find something soon. Digging is possible for anybody. It just takes planning and preperation. As far as dealing with repercussions of being arrested, I think its reasonable to expect a good sized fine, but thats no different than my loving student loans which I've had for nearly 20 years. No excuses people. gently caress xie and his wrists. Urban Smurf fucked around with this message at 14:19 on Sep 9, 2016 |
