Anybody know any good Porsche used parts classifieds? Trying to see what's out there in terms of used parts and it seems like the renlist and planet 9 classifieds move really slow.

That and ebay is about it unless you fluke on Kijiji. There is a Porsche wrecker in Onterrible, but their prices are crazy. They wanted $600 each for a used headlamp assembly for my 911 when I bought a pair for $450 CDN on ebay.

I buy almost everything from Pelican or Suncoast and just drop it to my Montana box.

Separately, I test drove the panamera hybrid and it understeers like hell. I figured it'd be nice to have a no-gas commute (when I don't use public transit and bike, anyway) and special parking at work but it'd feel like a downgrade from my 2004 530i.

So are Caymans too, when you think about it. They have more trunk space than my E46 does! Also, they're great in the winter too apparently; not just because of the drivetrain layout, but apparently all the rear bodywork on the Cayman is stainless steel, so no rusting either!

Why yes, I am trying to justify a 987 Cayman S as a daily driver, why do you ask?

I went from a boxster DD to a Cayman DD, both worked great. Every now and then I'd head from my office in the suburbs into the Big City, and the small size made parking a breeze.

Do it. There's a 981 S on Rennlist I'm eyeing that comes with a set of winter tires but I have zero free weekends until the end of October. By that time I might as well wait for spring.

I went back and forth with that guy so many times back when he had it listed for 55k, then 50k, then 48k, then 45k. I actually spoke to someone else who test drove it who said it could definitely use a suspension refresh, which raises the price by a few grand. Not sure if 42k for that car with 56k miles is a good deal or not.

I have been toying with this:

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...431663552&Log=0

Which is the same car except with significantly fewer miles. If I could get that for 50k I'd do it.

I'm essentially debating between:

1. Cayman S/GTS with a warranty for 60kish to use as an all year car (with winter tires)
2. Buying a Boxster Spyder without a warranty + my current GTI as a winter car

Part of me thinks it'd be nice to have a warranty for my first Porsche, but the other part of me really likes that 987.2 Spyder. There's also the issue that I have zero free weekends between now and October 22nd and winter is coming.

2015 Cayman s, 11k miles with sports exhaust, sports chemo, pasm, and an msrp of 82k. 58k with a set of nearly new winter wheels and tires. Warranty until the end of 2018 and passed a ppi.

Good deal?

That seems like a real good deal. Two sets of wheels too? What's the catch? No other options?

Hope it recovers from its car cancer though

Whoops, that should have been sports chrono. Apparently I type chemo too much. Here are the options:

Options:
20" Carrera S Wheels
PASM (active suspesion)
Fire Extinguisher
PDLS (dynamic lighting)
Sport Chrono
Sport Steering Wheel
Painted Interior
Sport Seats
Auto Dimming Mirror w/Rain Sensor
Convenience Package
Infotainment Package with BOSE Surround
Platinum Satin painted wheels
PSE (sport exhaust)
Tinted Taillights
Center console painted

MSRP of 83k. Full set of second wheels with Michelin Pilot Alpins and TPMS sensors.

edit: Holy poo poo I'm getting a Volkswagen Porsche.

Wow that is a good deal. For perspective, I'm getting a 2016 base Cayman with the base 18"s, base radio, PASM, premium package/ventilated seats, and the sport steering wheel and it costs about 4K more than that S. drat. That's awesome. I take it from the edit you bought it?

Me too (a little), but I figured that while I have the chance I want to DD a two seat car while I can. I considered driving a Spyder with winter tires on it but realized that'd be dumb and I'd grow to hate it.

Although I am a bit worried about what my coworkers will think. :ohdear:

I'm getting used to older German car ownership. I just fixed the elastic tensioners on the top that ensure the fabric tucks into the window frame, and today I open my top and I hear a snap.

And the top won't close without me helping it but the clamshell goes up and down.

Quick research leads me to believe it's just the top push rods, specifically the plastic ball socket that breaks on them. Under $100 is parts and I should have a working to again. Just needed to vent.

A) That's freakin' awesome
B) No wonder my bill is high

If I go out to clients, I'll drive a different car if the client is blue collar/not as well off financially. Coworkers? They don't really bring it up one way or another.

A few years ago most shops in that business wouldn't go over 4.1L on the Mezger. I'd be interested to see the bore and stroke numbers on that build. 4.3L on an engine that was never raced over 4L. Seems like it shouldn't last long at that size but I'm sure the shop did plenty of testing.

In other news I'm finally ready to dump the STI. In the last day I drove an E90 M3 and two 997.2s (C2S and C4S). The power delivery was more fun in the M3 but the Porsche felt better in almost every other way. It's going to be fun putting a rear facing baby seat in a 911.

The ad says 105.4 x 82 mm. Which is quite a lot over the stock engine at 100 x 76.4, and more still than the late-997 4.0 at 102.7 x 82.4.

I saw an interesting radar thing from escort that reports the speed traps with a waze like software and shares it with other users. I mean I drive a minivan so I am immune from traffic stops but if I was driving a ticket magnet I would investigate.

I wonder if there are enough users of something like that to make it worthwhile. Waze only really works because it's owned by google, so anyone with an android or with google maps open is harvesting data for them.

Yeah I think the reporting is automatic so it has that but the user base has to be tiny. Maybe truckers.

It looks like it is a free app, but a pay version is better, and it syncs with any escort brand radar detector. I only know about it because I put in an car play receiver and this was one of the apps they were pimping.

Yeah I've seen Escort Live. I actually have an older Escort 9500xi that I was planning on bringing with me, but to be honest I'll probably just set the cruise at 7 over and just use Waze the entire way.

Except for downshifting into third and turning on the sports exhaust in the tunnels. :getin:

The Waze traffic reporting might be auto, but the police and "wreck" reporting is a manual reporting issue.
