Time for some new books and this time around it's 40k time. Anyone have any recommendations for stuff that focuses on space combat of any scope? I believe I asked this once over in Games and got recommended (at least, going by my bookshelf) Know No Fear, Fear to Tread and Deliverance Lost. (I frankly don't remember any of them that well, they're probably getting a re-read soon ) Ciaphas fucked around with this message at 02:29 on Sep 11, 2016 |

The Soul Drinkers series is patchy at best - I liked the premise and some of the bolter porn sequences are nicely done but the overall story is an unconvincing mess.

Please tell me about what a horrible mistake I made. The Blood Angels book has been entirely retconned at this point for which I am very thankful because it is absolutely terrible. I don't think there's a Blood Angels player out there that actually likes those books. It's a shame because the chapter gets very few books but that's Black Library I guess E: I guess I could elaborate a bit. Swallow completely ignores the existing fluff around the chapter and turns everyone stupid. I only made it through the first book but the entire premise was just bad. Do the Night Lords feature prominently in any of the heresy novels? I was going to dive right into Gaunt's Ghosts next but after Night Lords and Lord of the Night I'm interested in reading more of Curze's story.

They're in a number of short stories, their big novel has kind of been Pharos. Pharos is an interesting one, there's an good conversation between Sanguinius and Curze but on the whole it's an inferior author trying desperately to ape ADB's style. Everything from the everyman group of local soldiers to the cannibalism.

Storm of Iron is legitimately one of the best 40k books out there. As SRM mentioned, Siege of Castellax is best not even mentioned. The Word Bearer books are generic and bland mostly. I only read them as there is some overlap with the Ultramarines series which I enjoyed more.
