The Midnight - Endless Summer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVpFnv9RyIE How is no one talking about this album? I've looked all over the internet, and the only vague reference to it, despite it being out for a decent amount of time, is a review in a German Magazine. This is definitely my synthwave album of the year, and these guys (The Midnight) are loving amazing at what they do. It's not hardcore thrashing synthwave like say Dan Terminus or Perturbator, but it has NON-poo poo VOCALS and SAXOPHONE SOLOS. Nordick posted:More upbeat, "sunny" sounding synthwave is good on an idea level and something I'd like for variation every now and then, but this just gets too saccharine for me. I blame the vocal style, mostly. The music itself is nice, but combined with the cheesy vocals it's just a bit too much. I agree with this, but then, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrKNb5uwjxQ [/quote] how is this not a completely cheesy female vocal trance track?

Nordick posted:I don't get the sickly saccharine feeling from it that The Midnight's vocals give me. I think that's mostly the style they're going for more than any flaw of the singer. He gets downright soulful on some tracks, like Synthetic, which really cemented him as one of my favorite recent vocalists. He really hits the 80's vibe with his voice.

What subgenre of electronic would you guys put Solar Fields, H.U.V.A. Network into? Recently re-discovered these guys (obviously found Solar Fields right after Mirror's Edge dropped a few years back) and I really like this glitchy, ambient, almost droning style of electronic. Would love to find more along these lines. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J8iw0AmegI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF7POnIF0Rk

Hello friends, I was posting in the Techno thread just now, but where do we talk about tech house? For me it's unmistakably connected to techno more so than to house, because of its shared underground and anti-mainstream tendencies. Mainly though, I huddle them together because all the clubs here in Berlin play techno and/or tech house, and pretty much none of them play trance or house or any of the more mainstream electronic genres (even Berghain, of course, has tech house upstairs at panorama bar). So anyway, just wanted to do a mini Andreas Henneberg dump here, because I went to see his set at Sisyphos a week ago on Sunday, and gently caress me it was really good. Especially this track, which I can't get enough of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkmGl8PZDgo The whole set reminded me a lot of his set at Kater Blau last year, which was insane too: http://soundcloud.com/andreas-henneberg/andreas-henneberg-at-kater-blau-11102015 Just like his set at Fusion this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvIwXfFxeHU

Ok, this has probably been done before, but more house records should have an acoustic version like this: https://soundcloud.com/platform/kerri-chandler-troy-denari-the-way-it-goes-track-1 Since I discovered Boiler Room, I've been (re)discovering so much quality house music that's out there...

There are thousands of great disco mixes, I don't see what sets it apart from a Danny Tenaglia, Frankie Knuckles, or Francois K mix. It's enjoyable mind you, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The shorter edits and effects chain (everything sounds just a tad more compressed) definitely make it feel more modern than something like Francois K. Predictably, I loving love it.

They really have different goals and vibes, it's not like they're even really comparable outside of a few influences. Daft Punk is more Chic, Justice is more Black Sabbath. It's apples and oranges.

Cross: Amazing Planisphere: Really amazing AVD: Really good save for Parade Both live albums: Awesome Three tracks so far of Woman: Really good Homework: Some classics but a few stinkers as well Discovery: Amazing, no bad tracks Human After All: like 3 good tracks out of 9 Alive 2007: Really good Random Access Memories: More garbage every time I listen to it, one of the most overrated pieces of crap to come out in a long time If Justice hasn't eclipsed Daft Punk in sheer numbers of "good songs" then they're drat near close
