the only way to get gay options is by completing the game then doing a Hard run ng+, getting the bad ending, then going and getting true ending on Easy. Then shall the path to dudes open for you

So, what do I need to know from SMTIV going into Apocolypse? Because my Street Date breaking store apparently just got copies in and I am going to try to grab a copy (Though if they have DQVII 3DS too I may just get that for the time being).

I believe you need to know the ending from the Neutral Route of the game, which I do not know, but is googleable

From what I understand what you need to know is: There was an apoclypse. Tokyo was sealed off from the rest of the world. Above Tokyo there is a samurai kingdom run by angels. The Samurai came down to Tokyo and hosed poo poo up. Now demons and angels are fighting with Tokyo stuck in the middle.

My protagonist is going to be named Kaito Eizou. (影藏快人) 快人 has characters meaning "cheerful person," a reference to his mild-mannered public persona, and is a homophone for the word for phantom thief. 影 means shadow, a reference to his shadowy true self as a thief. 藏 means to hide or to possess, referring to not only his stealth tactics, but his taking of what he feels belongs to him. In true Gyakuten Saiban fashion, this would probably never be a real name, but it sounds cool and has thematic significance, so gently caress it.

It actually is pretty bad about filling you in, but the story is self-contained enough that you don't really need to know the backstory of IV to figure out what's going on. The constant callbacks to IV will probably be pretty weird though since they're not usually explained.

While the gay thing is in all probability true, what's being reported is also in all probability a guess. I'm skeptical that this fact would be discovered and reported before any details of the S-Links or whatever they're called now; the credible spoilers seem to be based on image and movie files.

i haven't finished IV, in fact I got to Medusa and had something else grab my attention, but without spoiling anything does IV take place in any of the current universes in SMT or is it a whole new thing the way it was explained to me is that all these different games are briefly or tangentially connected via the amala network (which explains demi fiend fighting DDS crew), but it was one of those a friend of a friend told me things so idk if its true or not

But the Demonica suits in SJ and IV were developed for different reasons so there's no real connection. The DLC for Apocalypse actually arguably does connect the other games. Whether it's really canonical or just a paper-thin pretense to let your party tag-team a boss with the heroes of the first four numbered SMT games is debatable though.

Trying to follow the story in Apocalypse just seems kind of crazy. The game doesn't seem to offer that much different than standard SMTIV so it's pretty much a skip for me. Especially since DQ7 comes out this week.
