I wish it was that simple. I'm military and the LPO of a division. I have no personal life or number.

Edit: to make it even better, I'm 29. The people who work for me are 33, 39 and 46. We're all the same rank, but somehow I'm in charge. And all of the after work poo poo is dealing with poo poo they have or haven't done.

I gave a talk at my company's Philadelphia office about robotics, home automation, and IOT stuff. Woefully underprepared, since I was out of the country all last week. I whipped this up in the hotel room last night:

I wound up hacking together a little thing that polls a USGS earthquake API every five minutes and displays the magnitude of the most recent earthquake by waving its little arms around. People seemed to like it, so I'm happy.

My career path has been one I never would have expected. For nearly my entire paycheck collecting days it's been in the radio controlled hobby industry. My current position finds me in the large scale segment which no doubt has been my favorite. I have a my Applied Sciences of general studies degree 2 years of school) but never went on for my bachelors. At this point I've had so much experience in supply chain management and ERP/MRP software and production planning etc that I've got plenty of marketable skills. I have no reason to ever leave where I am though. It's challenging, I have responsibility, freedom , respect and very generous employers. I'm happy.

Got around to watching the new ken block vid. Watched on the projector for maximum effect and it was pretty cool. I don't think anything will top the hoonicorn but this was definitely entertaining. I would have liked to see what they could have done in Australia like originally planned.

How old is acceptible?

Top off my head would be Datsun 1600 (510) and then would be last of the Toyota RWD Corollas (Sprinter) altho not stock, they need a bit of work but they seriously hoot when thats done.

Otherwise.... uhhhh...... not much answers that. Basically Datsun 1600 is the answer. Drive one that's even stock and you'll see why.

On the maybe not quite MX5 in chuckability but worth it for being hilariously fast and still a complete bit of driving magic that still daily drives would be a GC8 Impreza that's been WRX swapped, given you didnt have GC8 WRX's. Think of a GD WRX but with 150kgs less weight and a more raw feel. Also given that they weigh about the same a a dry fart the modding response is pure bang for buck.

(Might be an issue finding one now tho)

Those look delicious. Which leads me to the question;

Why aren't you selling those for like a buck fifty a pop to people because they're freshly prepared artisan cakes made with the finest GMO free ingredients and baked by a local veteran baker of x year's experience?

Wrar posted:

Same. The guy that buys our tools balks at spending money on the good poo poo despite him knowing we have the cash for all the baller poo poo we actually NEED to do the job properly. So he always buys the cheap poo poo, the cheap poo poo always breaks and then he buys another one which breaks again because it's such poor quality so he buys another at which point we've passed the cost of buying the quality tool in the first place which would last forever...

It's really annoying. We have a new manager though and he seems to understand that quality tools are an investment so I end up talking to him in earshot of our purchasing guy and 9/10 we get the good stuff.

Because there's at least a half dozen cupcake specialty shops in the metro already trying to do that, and due to the food laws here I'd have to either maintain or rent a certified commercial kitchen to produce anything I can sell to the public outside of charity bake sales and the like. I've got probably 30 cents in ingredients and a buck in labor (at my current pay rate, which would equal out to about $10-12 if I was paying both sides of the taxes on it), and that's before transportation costs, factoring in the equipment and utilities used to produce them, and any packaging needs.

There's not enough money in it unless you're selling wholesale, and even then it's a tight thing. People out here are absolutely unwilling to pay what I would have to charge to be profitable when they can go to Walmart or Hy-Vee and get reasonably OK cupcakes (that are mostly just cake mix topped with canned buttercream) for $1 a piece. That's why I left the bakery in the first place, my boss at the time was late with my money two paychecks in a row then finally bounced one. There was a mass exodus about then. It might work better in a larger city, but only if I had a significant (As in mid five digits) amount of seed money, and even then profits aren't reliable.

End of the day, I'd rather not gamble on it when I can pull down $25 an hour as a head server janitor and bake for friends and family on my days off. I'd like to have things like houses and retirement funds at some point before I hit retirement age, after all.

Edit : They were delicious. The top ones are pecan brownie cupcakes with a caramel buttercream frosting and home-made candied pecans on top, the bottom ones are chocolate mint dipped in chocolate ganache (which was a bit too cold for the job, as you can tell by the texture.) But whatever, the people I worked with liked 'em.

Note that they want $33 a dozen for their cupcakes alone, and I would lay money on alcohol profits making up a lot of the owners' take-home.

Do you have a kitchen?

It's basically like rebuilding a bit of a car: bunch of components that need to be assembled in a certain way.

Other similarities include manuals that gloss over important stages, specialist tools that you will only use once and taking far longer than a professional would do.
