Four additional floors? I can get the ground floor pieces, two mids, and a top in that central chamber. Though the ceiling/floor pieces tend to mess with the way the walls snap together.

Ground floor plus three above that, I was misunderstanding why the ceiling pieces wouldn't snap to the walls, but I figured it out now. Ended up using atrium floor tiles instead of ceiling/floor tiles, bit more headroom plus it feels lighter.

Also holy poo poo sniping is bad in this game

KaiserSchnitzel
Feb 23, 2003

Hey baby I think we Havel lot in common
Hmm, so I decided after all that I was interested enough in the content provided with the 3 DLC I didn't have so I picked up the season pass. The DLCs wouldn't install for whatever reason, so I just reinstalled the game. This of course completely hosed my elaborate and mostly functional (and yet stable-"ish"; i.e. only crashes once or twice a day) mod setup with a ludicrous amount of terrible mods that just don't function together (who would think that there would be conflicts among 209 mods, some of which hadn't been updated since Nov. 2015?)

But, the silver lining is that I finally got rid of 70% of those mods. There was at one point, a reason that i installed each and every one of those mods. Mistakes were made. So many construction-option mods completely gently caress up your building menus - adding multiple levels of nonsense, 15 versions of the same plant, catwalks and guardposts that are useless because they have no navmeshing, etc. So many clothing mods that are - shall we say - not as advertised, and so on - and I'm left with a set of mods that - to my knowledge - is stable, works with all DLCs, doesn't add any construction options or hidden OP Mutfruit superfood plants, and generally just lets me play the game the way I want. Very nice.

Unfortunately, although I can load up my character's saves, all of my settlements are now totally jacked up. I just sat there looking at my list of 30 settlements, all of them screaming that they have no defense (apparently I had some mod that not only removed the requirement to power any defenses but also doubled or tripled their defense values), half of them have no water (no idea), everything removed with 'Scrap Everything' was re-placed which made buildings inside of lovely buildings, power grids and lighting are 40 feet in the air, Brahmin are on top of shack roofs (oh, wait; that's normal), and I just couldn't deal with it.

So I liberated myself.

I really have no desire to grind another character up to level 220 again - but what I could do is just start a new game with a level 220 character, already set up the way my other character was minus the equipment (because, seriously; it's not like you can't just build whatever you want - and who the gently caress ever found a use for the 60 sets of power armors they put on display?) So, with what the junkies call a "moment of clarity," I started a new game. yeah yeah yeahed all the way through the beginning and exited vault 111 with essentially the same character I'd been using for a year with a whole new lease on life. No faction conflicts, no nagging settlements, not a care in the world.

You know what? gently caress you Codsworth; I'm not even going to talk to you. I can fire up this workshop without anybody's nagging. Preston Garvey? Never heard of him. Marcy Long and Mama Murphy, to the best of my knowledge, do not exist. I'm not weighed down by a lovely set of power armor and some useless jerks that are going to bang a hammer on the same fan every day for the next 300 days without ever doing any real work. Just gonna scrap some poo poo and build some upgrades for this 10mm and be on my way.

Oh hi Dogmeat; you're cool. You get to stick around and I'm building you a doghouse right here. Run, play, frolic; enjoy being a dog. Just keep those molerats under control.

Concord? pffft. Survival of the fittest.

tilde> tmm 1> tilde. Fast travel to combat zone three minutes after exiting the vault. Oh hey there junkie Irish girl; let me Sandman these fuckos for ya and we'll head off down the road to wherever we want not giving a poo poo. I suppose I''ll have to clean you up at some point, but now you can just keep saying "shag" and "arse" all you want. Psycho it up. I'm making plenty of it. Here's a minigun I just got off this guy I killed a while back. Piper? Yeah; you're fun enough to hang out with as well.

Yeah...liberation.

I'll get back all those settlements & do them exactly the way I want them. Sorry about your daughter, Abernathy. Let me go and get that locket for ya. Molerats at the drive-in you say? Yeah, I'm just going to kill them, scrap some cars, and build nothing until I need a new army barracks. Every settlement with existing populations are just going to stay the same size, but get some nicer beds and something other than pipeguns. Provisioners and supply lines? Gonna build robots and send them out from Red Rocket. Replaceable, expendable; no worries.

No settlement radio signals. No whining about beds or food. Covenant? Yeah; I'm just gonna go ahead and kill you all on sight. Poor Janey Warwick - sorry your Daddy's a synth, but to be honest your farm setup is pretty sweet. Let me slap up some rocket turrets and we can enjoy a slaughter every 10 minutes.

Gonna clone Glory; her likenesses will protect anything that needs protection; namely all my drug mills. And you're going to be set up with enough hardware that all of my loyal settlers will be able to live with style and ease. I am going to destroy the bottlecap economy of the Commonwealth, with no more than 6 settlers per settlement.

Shaun? pfft. He's old enough to be my dad. He sure doesn't need my help.

Hey, sweet castle. No; I killed those mirelurks; you assholes can GTFO. You too, "Ronnie," if that is in fact your name.

I'm gonna have to kill Kellogg just to get the BOS to show up; but I only want them to show up so I can hunt them down like the Nazi dogs they are.

The only thing to decide then is what to do about the gang situation in Nuka World. Everything else is going to be entrepreneurship in its purest form, with only the most agreeable company. Looking good, and feeling good. Sweet liberty.

For the Vault 88 builds people are talking about: is "main area" the initial room, with the collapsed train tunnels (and rest of the scrappable train poo poo)? Because there, I have, from the bottom up: atrium wall/floor, mid wall, mid wall, utility prefab wall, Overseer office wall - five floors up. Only reason my own personal space isn't bigger is that I was hitting the "stupid rock ceiling is in my way" limit, and didn't want to uglify things by having more set-in sections than I already had.

Those spotlights on the roof girders are hella powerful, too, as they punch light down through two separate floor/ceiling sets to make it to ground level. :science:

Hmm, I just had an idea - if I take a settlement all on my own, no gang backup, and *don't* plant a flag, does that leave me with a gang-spot and no gangers loitering around the joint? IE, a nice quiet place I can stack all full of Pick-Me-Up stations and turrets to discourage looting?

It'd probably still be attacked by those Minutemen psychos, though.

exhilerating, isn't it? A completely different game.

There are so many mods designed around making the game less annoying, but the fact of the matter is you can achieve nirvana simply by avoiding the annoying things to begin with.

If I ever decide to actually start a new level 1 character - like, legit; no cheating (doubtful...I already did the grind once; that's plenty), I'll probably try this "Preston who?" strategy.

No; like until yesterday I'd played the game for hundreds of hours and never even known that you could pick up something and move it while holding it outside of the workshop mode. So many naked corpses that I could have removed from otherwise pristine settlements. Throwing items makes for a whole new level of nonsense.

Honestly I never even bothered to figure out grenades since I just VATS headshot everything in a 200 meter radius.

It was made in 1998, you could probably run it on a cheap smartphone. The gameplay is highly dated but if you can get past that (and a bunch of pop culture references and silliness) both of the original games are classics. Go here: http://www.killap.net/fallout2/web/Downloads.html and download the unofficial patch before playing. Don't bother with the "restoration project" file, it adds back some cool cut stuff but also some really supid cut stuff.

Oh, the actual overseer's office is a second-floor room sitting on top of the Super Fusion plant, and holds the Overseer's desk, a bed (that she never uses), some lighting and both Vault Boy and Girl statues. The fifth-floor build is my enormous "keep my poo poo here" room - wallmounts up for assorted weapons, bookcases full of magazines, my Bobblehead stand, and my trunks full of junk/misc, foodstuffs, non-legendary/faction/"special" armor and clothing, and non-legendary weapons. (Weapons racks have the appropriate type of weapon stuffed into a small footlocker in front - handgun, longarm, heavy and melee.) Oh, and the lines of manniquins showing off some of the armors I though were interesting, and a whole shitload of type-specific footlockers for armors - all BoS poo poo is stuffed in one, all the Trapper junk in another, all the <legendary-type specific> in one just for that purpose, et cetera. Power armor displays are in one corner, but spare frames are downstairs in the utility level, along with all the crafting stations and the lockers full of power-armor parts (helmets/torsos and so on, each get a locker, as well as the Fusion Core locker.

Has anyone found a way to put the Cryolator in a weapons-display rack? It's annoying that a named unique item would have to be stuck in a lovely display cabinet - it doesn't count as a displayable weapontype at *all*.

Maybe I should go back to my last save before going to Nuka-World, and switch to a Vim! armor to replay. :v: Maybe the CEO in a jar would have some different dialogue... or Petrovita, for that matter.
