Bullfrog posted:So many of my former Bernie-supporting friends are crawling out of the woodwork for Gary Johnson right now and it is infuriating. The worst part is their immense smugness. I've seen a distressing number of Bernie supporters on Reddit that are now in the tank for Johnson or Stein and it is just infuriating. Third party voters have got to be the dumbest part of the electorate. Even dumber than Trump voters. At least Trump voters know what they want (racism and xenophobia) and are doing something that could actually accomplish it. "Strategic voting" is something that is totally lost on them and in fact even regarded as a sin. There is no reasoning with these people.

I still can't get over the fact that Clinton held that Reno speech in an effort to woo disaffected Republicans and to give them cover to jump ship and the exact opposite has happened. Johnson's "what is Aleppo?" gaffe made him look like an idiot but it also resulted in a lot of media exposure for him and I'm pretty sure it actually helped his poll numbers. Putting him on a stage in front of millions of people would make him look like a fool but it would also spread his message in a way he is incapable of as a political nobody. I mean just look at Trump.

Clinton has promised to support an amendment against Citizens United, something that Bernie supporters should be happy about. Anyone who supported Bernie and now is supporting Johnson has no political coherency whatsoever. Clinton is a thousand times closer policy-wise to Bernie than the Libertarian candidate. I guess she's a woman though...

Someone switching from Bernie to Stein can at least (try) to argue about going with a liberal. The ones who went from Bernie to Johnson are the assholes who want to vote for an outsider, and never actually cared about Bernie's positions, just that he argued something out of the norm. There are a lot of assholes who just want to use their vote to show how the rest of us are just sheeple (see Paul, Ron). There is nothing similar between Bernie and Johnson other than being angry white guys. I'm not saying that this is true of all Bernie folks, but there were many people who were there for the show, not the politics.

Maybe they can even talk about their study abroad and how the two-party system is flawed. The good thing about the "look at me I'm an independent, please acknowledge my deep thoughts" phenomenon is that third parties poll significantly higher than they actually perform at the ballot box. Turns out you can vote for the actual candidate you want to win while telling everyone you voted for someone else!
