Even with Prime, Netflix and Hulu I still download :filez: from a private SA splinter group for mostly newer movies for my wife and I and cartoons for my kids to load onto my Plex server. Netflix rarely ads anything new for kids, Hulu has like 20 decent things and dozens of (Pakistani?) ripoffs of 50yo Disney movies, and Prime is maybe a little better than Hulu. Overall we watch Hulu the most, I watch movies on Netflix late at night and Prime is always an afterthought but we didn't get it for the video service.

Speaking of :filez:, I saw where someone may have found an exploit in OFW3.55 for the PS4 and that the exploit may work on two other older firmwares (3.15, 3.50?) . So maybe modding consoles won't be a tech relic yet as I brought it up a few pages ago because by this time in their production cycle (compared to where the PS4 and Xbone are at) , the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 had already been figured out.

It's also kind of funny that OFW3.55 was the magic number on the PS3 and was the last one you could mod without using a Progskeet to downgrade it.

I would guess that rule #1 on your magic SA offshoot filez site is "don't ever loving mention this site anywhere" with the corollary of "especially not on SA itself" you dumbass

I would guess there's probably like a dozen sites that are still around based off the old filez subforums and I would also guess that rule #1 on all of them (like on literally every private tracker I've ever been a member of) is "don't talk about this site on other sites"

Yeah, DC++ (and variants) are still pretty good for localised file sharing. There were (are? it's been a while) a couple of pretty big ones at the university I went to. Of course, officially they don't exist.

I've mentioned before, but the golden age of streaming video seems to be done and gone. I don't know if it will ever come back, either.

Then over the last few years, it feels like the streaming arena has been fractured and diluted too much. I don't know how much of this is the case or not, but about 6-7 years ago it felt as if everyone who held the rights to movies just figured having Netflix streaming their stuff as a good deal. Then they saw how popular it was becoming and realized they needed more money for their content from Netflix or that they could run their own paid streaming service.

The sort of sad thing is that despite all the complaints about Crackle, I can turn it on and there seems to be a lot more recognizable films on it at first glance than Netflix/Amazon despite having just a fraction of the content.

I do have to say, though, I get antenna for most my TV and there's a lot of content on there if you have an interest in older TV and movies. One station is even showing reruns of MST3K, and another plays old Johnny Carson Tonight Show episodes.

That's the funny part, if you have a Comcast subscription you can access most of these streaming services as part of it.

Like I can watch TNT online or WatchESPN or a bunch of other things from my computer.

This just reminded me of the bullshit that was Oink.Me. I tried like hell to get onto that site for ages and by the time I was on bullshit like that would get releases nuked mid-download with no credit and you'd be totally hosed on your ratio. I spent hours digitizing my CD collection just so I could upload stuff to make back the credit on ratio lost to nuked uploads.

Wait..what? for the 3 or so years I had a 360, the only hack available was the drive firmware hack for playing "backup's". Last time I looked there's some 'timing trick' around but that looks a bit of a pain & I think you needed to be on a specific kernel (or something, I gave up).

Is 360 hacking really "figured out" yet?

Dude?
Well there is the rgh/jtag method, the drive firmware method, and the drive emulator method. I'd say it's pretty well figured out.

Online.

My 360 finally redringed last year so I got around to fixing it. I found a couple of leaking caps in there so I'm planning to replace them sometime this week, probably at work since we have a nicer soldering iron there.

Also a robot football (loosely based) game of some kind where you could upgrade your robots and they'd blow up if you didn't get a 1st down. Excellent game as well.

The 360 requires a pretty complex chip but yea as far as I know any of them can be modded. The jtag method was only for certain kernels, were dirt cheap (didn't require a chip) and had a very high successful boot rate.

The PS3 is pretty much impossible to mod. If you saw the wiring required you'd laugh your rear end off. I had the foresight like a nerd Nostradomus to never connect mine to online so all I needed was a thumb drive with the custom firmware on it.

When the first USB type dongle arrived to mod the PS3, you could use a ATMEGA or similar chip on your own board, buy the 'official hack', use a Texas Instruments Calculator to send the payload or in my case - use a Jtag board meant for the XBox360 which I reflashed. I still have that thing lying around somewhere.
