Edit: In regards to the database, if it was originally written in a language that has gendered nouns for everything, you can't necessarily just include non-gendered terms for both selections. You'd probably display it as Doctor for both, in English, but store it as Doctor(M), or Doctor (F). There's a reason that Feminists make a big deal about gendered language!
