They keep wanting to push standard even though people don't want it. It's been their bread and butter for decades now and they don't know anything else. To even conceive of a different model is heresy, and nobody seems to want an LCG even though they are a fine business model.

JOHN CENA posted:Is there any reason why Wizard's wouldn't do a regular print run of Modern Masters at a price point of like, 6 or 7 a pack? Because you lower demand that way and actually decreasing the price of the format is a player goal, not the company's goal. 80s James Hetfield posted:I think it's due to Fanatic having haste so even though the artifacts have haste they can't attack unless they're crewed. MiddleEastBeast posted:So how do you introduce checks to all these very different t3/4 goldfish decks? Or is the point that you can't given the available card pool, and Modern is inevitably destined to always be dumb? I've heard people float the idea of increasing the sideboard size just in Modern, although I'm not familiar with any actual testing of alternative sideboard rules and it doesn't seem like something Wizards would actually do. Another thing that might move the needle a bit would be unbanning at least one of the card selection spells currently on the banlist, to make it easier for people to dig to their silver bullets - lots of Legacy sideboards are even more scattershot than Modern ones, but it works out because you can Brainstorm into them. Ponder and Preordain have been out of the format for five years, and the style of combo deck that they were worried about in 2011 just aren't that big in the Modern of 2016.

Ponder would be a good unban. The argument against it is that it would just enable combo, but the only real combo deck it might put over the top is infect, and that might be managed by banning Become Immense.

I generally don't play any copies of cards that can be straight dead, but the upside is high enough and the flavor strong enough to include. Also drawing two of them in your starting hand is pretty feel-bad I could at most see boarding a couple additional copies for very very removal-light matches sit on my Facebook fucked around with this message at 00:47 on Sep 21, 2016 |

I've played 100+ competitive matches with Infect at this point and I can tell you that banning Become Immense isn't going to help if you give me Ponder or Preordain. Especially with the new +2/+2 and hexproof spell. Become Immense is frequently (but not always) simply overkill. It might slow the deck down... a half turn (this is total seat-of-the-pants estimation), but increase the durability a ton. Do I think Infect is a weaker deck without BI? Yeah, probably. But eliminating it means I can run a slightly less painful manabase (I'd probably cut 2 fetches and insert 2 of the new fastlands) and easily insert 4 Blossoming Defense. It's still a ruthlessly efficient deck.
