I developed keloids after a standard ear piercing and had plastic surgery to repair them. This is a relatively common thing, though more so among black women than light skinned women like me, so I suspect many surgeons can do those repairs.

I had my ear lobes repaired not too long ago. They were stretched out to 7/8ths of an inch. I had taken the plugs out a while ago and was sick of having big, fleshy holes in my ears. I was a dumbass teenager. I'm still kind of a dumbass, but less of one at least.

Skin is generally pretty elastic when you're young and without jewelry in they'll shrink a lot. Not likely to ever completely close, but unless you go really big it'll close to a point pretty well. My lobes shrunk 13mm when I took them out for a while, which doesn't sound like a lot but it is when it's a small lobe(from 5/8 to 2g). Around an inch or more is where you typically end up running into problems, though

I always wanted to take a picture of this guy that was always on the bus on my morning commute a few years ago. He had really badly infected gauged ears. They were so badly infected that the pus actually was leaking out from the ear to the plug causing a crust to form. I hope this is a joke because it's pretty clear his monocle is a plastic lid.
