Oh, and the fact that early Greek versions of the Bible tend to say completely different things and have completely different meanings. But no, the word of God is unsullied by the craven hands of men.

Yeah, there's parts where the disciples disagree and so forth. We have weird ideas about religion rooted in our attempts to govern colonized people according to a concrete "tradition," leading to things like not noticing that the entire Bhagavad Gita is a two sided argument in a genre of philosophy which presents multiple schools of thought as dialouges.

Very few people actually read enough of the Bible where they get this is true. You also see this with Islam, for example: BarbarianElephant posted:Sometimes I think these guys would be happier with Islam, where the whole holy book is supposedly directly dictated by God, no pussying around with "John says this but Luke says that." There is a section of the Quran which is literally "God gave me this and it's the inerrant word" but there's a very significant section that's just "early scholars try to interpret said inerrant word to apply to society".

Instead if focuses around some stupid city and some government worker who finds out his wife is cheating on him so he ends up cheating on her or something like that. Except they both have Super Fantasy AIDS or something and eventually the entire town gets infected and dies and then it cuts to the series' main character and he's like "welp, that serves those filthy sexhavers right" or something. It's really really loving awful and I wish I hadn't been such a voracious fantasy reader that I got a good 4-5 books into the series before I couldn't take it anymore. It did, however, make a kinda fun TV show (in the same sense that Hercules: The Legendary Journeys was a fun show) that starred the Gyro Captain from Mad Max as the wizard.

Do they just not comprehend that the rules are different for non-white/rich people or do they really think that high paying opportunities will magically spring from the ether if we were just not so lazy? They think that anyone can have at least as much success and opportunity as they've had, which they believe has been entirely due to their skills and hard work, and thus there's no excuse for anyone to be poorer than them. That goes from the rich ones at the top all the way down to the poorest whites. They think the rules are stacked against white people, and that minorities are given advantages that ought to allow them to vastly outearn and outperform similarly motivated whites. Remember, white people now think that racism against whites is more prevalent in this country than racism against blacks. BI NOW GAY LATER posted:I mean -- think the larger problem is the culture of policing (see my post earlier from Nolan) and that Police Unions become a reinforcer of those cultural attitudes. I am loathe to ever say that any labor group's union is inherently a bad thing or that we shouldn't allow people engaged in a considerably difficult job to collectively bargain for their rights. It's a) the culture of policing and b) the training and oversight. Police departments are way more to blame than police unions. For example, that cop who was recently fired for violating policy by talking down an armed person who was clearly trying to commit suicide by cop, rather than just unloading a clip into him. Night10194 posted:I wonder what's got Priebus starting to hammer the 'Honor your loyalty pledges!!' drum again?
