Oy I was so enthralled with DQ7 that I impulse purchased DQ8 for my phone. No voice acting and portrait mode only, touchscreen controls are awkward. Bad decision on my part. Maybe if I look again I can find my ps2 copy....

It's... mildly strange how many people I've encountered in this game that were just peeing against a wall. Two of those people I made urinate on themselves because apparently I surprised them.

My brother said that a good chunk of IX isn't available anymore because it requires the WiFi connection which has been shut down. Is that true?

I seem to recall it being possible to host a fake server that can unlock it, but may have imagined that.

Decus posted:You said not to say this earlier but I don't think this series is for you if you view talking to NPCs as a chore. It's kind of the primary means of exposition and you're meant to want to talk to everybody not to find the one trigger to advance and get this over and done with but to gleam the story of the area before, during and after your arrival. Complaining about copy-pasted models is another thing that's kind of at-odds with the series--it's like the menus where you're either charmed by them or absolutely hate them. Bad dungeon design is going to be frustrating no matter how you pace your play though. That, party members abruptly leaving, and the bad class system were the big problems with the game. And one was fixed! More importantly, Maribel's portrait owns and Gabo has a buddy now so this is a good remake imo

Loving the story and gameplay integration in this (what I assume is) final part of the game. I just feel like even if I was as vague as possible I'd still spoil it so I just won't say anything.

So I've been kinda stuck for a day or so. I get demolished by the bandits by Alltrades Abbey in the Present. Any good spots to grind? I've been currently grinding in the same area but in the past. Or should I even be grinding?

Hey the new DLC tablets are available.Detective No. 27 posted:So I've been kinda stuck for a day or so. I get demolished by the bandits by Alltrades Abbey in the Present. Any good spots to grind? You can try using a Hatchet Man to take out a metal doll from the tablet DLC for levels, but that risks taking you out of the job level cap, so I'd not recommend it. The necessity of grinding depends a lot on your job and equipment set-up, but with a decent set-up shouldn't be needed at this point.

Ability bloat sure is a thing on my Gladiator. Like 3 pages of Offensive attacks that are all a variation of "hit hard". I wish they were a bit more transparent about what all the skills actually do. I mean, what is even the difference between Pressure Pointer, Flying Knee and Knuckle Sandwich?

That's weird, the other games are pretty detailed about Pressure Pointer at least (crap damage or instakill). Knuckle Sandwich is weird if it works like 6 since it's just straight up double damage in one hit (unlike stuff like Falcon Slash and Multifists which don't get nearly as much out of Oomph) but it can miss since its treated as a status ailment like Whack or Snooze.

I think Flying Knee does extra damage to enemies that are, well, flying. A lot of skills are crapshoots though. I wish they told me things like Stomp sometimes outright fails, or Harvest Moon does more damage against a single target as opposed to two, or maybe told me what spells/abilities using an item in-battle will give me before I spend inordinate amounts of money on buying it.
