Just to add some real numbers to my above point about Nevada.

In 2008 the final RCP polling average was Obama +6.5, he won the state 55.2-42.7 or Obama +12.5

In 2012 the final RCP polling average was Obama +2.8, he won the state 52.4-45.7 or Obama +6.7

Current RCP polling average is Trump +2, so if the 2008/2012 pattern held Clinton would win it by 2 or 3 points. So it's definitely not a guaranteed in the bag thing but Nevada for whatever reason (likely underrepresenting of Hispanic voters in polling?) leans Republican before election day and Democratic on election day.

It's not just for President either. In 2010 Senate the polling average in Nevada showed Sharon Angle with a 2.7% lead going into the elections then Harry Reid won by 5.6%.

In 2012 it showed Heller up 4% and he ended up winning by 1.2%.

Besides, if there's any state in the nation who should understand what a colossal loving idiot you have to be to bankrupt a Casino, it's Nevada.

New research into the crime wave then came to far different conclusions, with various environmental and social factors appearing to have driven the crime increase from the 60s to the 90s that had nothing to do with psychopathic black youths scaring nice white people.

I love the arguments that somehow Trump as president will make the GOP find their conscience and work against him, or be so bad as to create a Dem landslide majority in 2018. You'd have to be wholly ignorant of how politics and history works on a fundamental level.

One other thought:

You frame the ethics around this as if you would be tainted by voting for Clinton. That because she falls short of your standards and morals (I disagree that this is correct, but I'll wave aside that for now), it somehow lessens you to vote for her.

I disagree - voting for someone flawed or failing is not a strike on your own morals. By that logic, your morals are inherently flawed by all of the choices you make every day: you ate food that was picked by abused migrant workers, surfed the web on a computer made with conflict minerals, played an app on a phone made from materials mined by children and assembled by factory workers driven to suicide by their conditions. If each of these choices is a moral absolute, then you've already blasted away your claim to any morality by the choices you've already made.

Instead, look at this election as a chance to push progress forward. Of the candidates who have a chance to win (and therefore are worth voting for), who is the one who will push that forward the most? In this case, your vote is a step of positive progress, asserting your authority as a citizen and your morality as someone trying to push the country in a certain direction. And if Clinton turns out to be a failure at pushing that direction, that's not a reflection upon you - you took the most moral action you could.

That's how I look at this. And it's why I'm so offended by your stance - because from my lens, your refusal to vote is not a moral stance, but an active abandonment of a moral stance, done so while tooting your own horn about your morality.

That's how you can look at it I guess? But, I only have so much 'moral outrage', and when I need to drive a car to get to work. Or eat food, I just have to stop caring or completely shut down as a human being. It's the same thing that allows people to walk past homeless on the street. You can only do so much. And casting a vote is a lot easier than not buying a car, or computer, or clothes, or the head of lettuce. I don't subscribe to your everything or nothing moral lens.

Speaking for myself, I had never even heard of him before watching that 'debate', but good lord he does not come off well in it. The combination of his utter assuredness in his completely unrealistic scenario of a trump victory and his inability to take criticism of why his scenario wouldn't work just combine into an insufferable mass, and it would be hard to take anything he has to say seriously in the future.

Oh look, it's nerd night for me.

This actually kind of happened, in the mid-2000s with the Hot Coffee blowup in GTA San Andreas.

There's a bunch of news articles from the time covering her announcing wanting to do something about games and poo poo, but in spite of her wanting legislation restricting sales of adult games to minors, I can't find any record of her doing much more than saying "Hey, there ought to be a law," And then... it disappeared like so much steam.

Either someone pointed out the problem with that as a 1st Amendment issue or the media attention died down and she didn't pursue it.

That didn't stop Rockstar from blaming her for the Hot Coffee controversy even though she was rather peripheral to it at best...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-30-who-spilled-hot-coffee

quote:

As news of the Hot Coffee content spilled into mainstream culture, the issue became politicised. Senator Hillary Clinton called for federal game regulation and the Federal Trade Commission launched its own investigation. A Class Action Complaint For Violations Of Federal Securities Laws was brought against Take-Two, with the plaintiffs alleging: “By merely 'wrapping' rather than removing the Adult Content, Defendants knew that the Adult Content would inevitably be made widely available.”

quote:

But the Rockstar boss couldn't resist one final dig at his critics. San Andreas' follow-up, GTA 4, was based in a fictionalised version of New York. The face on the game's version of the Statue of Liberty bore a striking resemblance to Hillary Clinton. Instead of a flaming torch, she clutched a mug of steaming coffee.

EDIT: Oh look, she did join up with Lieberman try to make it a law...

If you have a very limited capacity for moral outrage then I guess you should probably vote Hillary because a Trump Presidency is going to keep that at the red line for the duration.

Plus, if you vote Hillary and Trump wins, imagine what a :smug: rear end in a top hat you can be about everything when it goes to poo poo.
