No you see the semantics are important. Discussing is not negotiating. Negotiating is apparently the thing you do once you've discussed and reached an agreement. There are no negotiations, only possible discussions. PS:

**The Royals** are visiting Whitehorse too. This means that my kinda ex-gf has nowhere to stay when she gets there in a couple days, because between the entourage, journalists and so forth there's not a rental bed to be had in the whole town.

Which might give me the opportunity to swoop in and save the day via connections I have up there.

So the royals are annoying as is any attention paid to them (gently caress CBC is devoting a whole day to them apparently) but it might help me get laid again so I guess I won't complain too much.

OTTAWA—The Liberal government has taken up the former Conservative government’s legal fight against an apology and compensation for three Canadians tortured in the Middle East, despite voting in favour of the former detainees’ cause while they sat in opposition.

As well, in aggressively defending the actions of CSIS and trying to prevent the release of thousands of unredacted documents that a judge is now poring over, the Liberals are going further than their Conservative predecessors did to protect CSIS sources.

Lawyers for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government are seeking retroactive blanket anonymity for spies and their sources and have filed an appeal in a civil lawsuit launched by the three men with that goal in mind. A Conservative bill last year, C-44, which enacted source protection, was not made retroactive.

Manitoba has a "balanced budget" law that the PCs passed years ago that required a refurendum for any tax increases and required MLAs to take a pay cut when running a deficit. The NDP managed to get around the law through some legal loopholes and raise the PST and it ended up being fairly disastrous for them among centerist and right leaning folks. I think a similar law requiring a referendum before selling a Crown Corporation would have the same effect if the NDP had the balls to write up something before being booted this past summer. Never underestimate the simplicity of the public.

Marc Wabafiyebazu, Canadian diplomat's son, deported from Florida

A teenager caught up in a double shooting in Florida that left his older brother dead has been quietly deported to Canada following a remarkable standoff between U.S. federal authorities and the state judge who sentenced him.

American immigration agents escorted Marc Wabafiyebazu from Miami to Montreal earlier this month where he was reunited with his mother, Roxanne Dube, The Canadian Press has learned.

"It's done. It's done. It's done," Dube, a senior diplomat, said in an interview from Ottawa. "He has his life ahead of him."

Now 16, Wabafiyebazu is back home in Ottawa studying privately for his high school equivalency and reconnecting with family and friends as he relaunches his life shattered by the gunfire in March last year that killed Jean Wabafiyebazu, 18, and another teen.

Although authorities never accused the younger sibling of shooting anyone, he nevertheless found himself facing a minimum 40-year prison sentence on charges of felony first-degree murder. Instead, in a plea deal rarely seen before, Wabafiyebazu pleaded no contest in February to reduced charges of felony third-degree murder.
