Also I dislike the style of Baki's artist so much, it just looks weird and offputting for every single character design I've seen from him

Warning tho: Survival is insanely depressing and the poor kid never gets any break for long, he's just always barely hanging on for life.

Like I said, it's been years, but I remember enjoying it. I'm going to pick it back up. http://kissmanga.com/Manga/Kami-sama-no-Iutoori-Part-2

Everyone feels that at first with baki but you get used to it. Also there's is no one who draws better fight scenes where you can actually understand what's going on and the impact of the fights like Baki's author. Dude is a genius.

Going back to survival stuff, has anyone read Ibara no Ou? From the synopsis, it covers the "people find themselves in post-apocalyptic world and have to survive" sub-genre.

Since we're on the topic of post-apocalyptic survival manga maybe with giant insects, I would like to wholeheartedly recommend 7 Seeds even if it isn't seinen. I think the best way to describe it would be survivalist dystopian horror shoujo. It's set after a meteor hits earth, and features a group of seven people attempting to survive in a giant-insect-laden future. It is exceptionally well-written (and has a female main character!), but the shoujo art style takes some getting used to. Things it features: a lot of wilderness survival, giant cockroaches, flashbacks of how the world went to poo poo, loveable characters (they grow on you...well, most of them), survival game arc, and some very funny moments.

Not some trashy manga that you binge just for the cheap thrill of seeing people get killed. It's enthralling. Recommended.

Please, he wanted chill stuff, not a suicide pill. (Ai-ren is extremely good, and it is often chill, but fluctuates a lot between that and the cripplingly terminal existence of both protagonists)
