The Saurus posted:Rich white person with connections and privilege finds well-paying feelgood job in the charity sector? What a shocker. e: you know what, i had something snarky written here, but i'm going to be a little more sincere towards you for a change. i'm aware of my own privilege. i fully understand that part of the reason why i can hold the job that i do, not get paid all that much for it, and still not have to worry about scraping by, is that i'm a white male whose parents could afford to help him with college. not everyone in the u.s. has the privilege required to be able to choose to do the work that i do, and i'm extremely grateful for it, and dedicated to paying it forward in my professional life. the fact that i have more privilege than you do in american society is no excuse for being as virulently racist as you are, though. your thesis seems to be that being anti-racist and not-xenophobic is a luxury of the rich, and that you have no choice but to be as bigoted as you are. you are so ready to project privilege onto people like latinos and middle easterners and pretend that they're at fault for your life not turning out as you wanted it to turn out. you've got to be one of the least self-aware individuals i've ever seen on these forums, and boy, that's saying something. you have no idea how much you're part of the problem. Carry on guys. You've fuckbarreled him for good measure, get it back on track. I don't really want to read any more Saurus posts. If he comes back and is pulling your leg around in fallacious and often contradictory logic that somehow endorses nazis and teenage girl sex trafficking because (that's just how demand works), just pm me thanks in advance~

i don't know man there's still plenty of sad internet weirdos on the political right who use it. you still agree with what you said so it's not like it has any different meaning: you're mad at young people because they're hipsters or punks or beatniks or whatever buzzword they coined when you were born so you're either an angry old man or a self absorbed failson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P97r9Ci5Kg drat, this Marxism stuff actually has a hella stable and well-thought out political philosophy behind it. It's like someone actually took the time to observe the world and human interactions and build a system around it instead of starting with the aim of maintaining the status quo and then making poo poo up to justify it like "The rich are good and deserve their money and drive the economy and are moral actors" (capitalism) or "The master race is superior and deserves their privilege over lesser humans" (fascism)

I read a really cool book called The Russian Tradition by TIbor Szamuely that was all about how the Russian tradition of autocracy was required for the state to survive during the Mongol invasion and overlordship, and was then integrated into the strategies and beliefs of its revolutionaries as the only way to effectively oppose the state, eventually ending up as the democratic centralism of the bolshevik party and finally resulting in the autocratic soviet government. It's got a lot of fun info about Russian revolutionaries working their asses off from the mid 1800s onwards

Of McCaine's reading list I can recommend two (haven't read the rest): Debt: The First 5,000 Years is super interesting and accessible, packed with anthropology facts from across time. I found a pdf online and it seemed like a draft, though--some spelling errors and a noticeable decline in quality towards the end. Society of the Spectacle A little denser, but seems to be ""The Spectacle is class power talking to itself, the dialogue of commodities to themselves, plastered all over the world, whether capitalist or bureaucratic-stalinist, of celebrities and illusions. The only way to fight it is to take advantage of the fact that we're the first common laborers to have any idea of our place and class power in History. P.S. Democratic councils are dope." Am I missing anything? I feel like I must be because this is my first Marxist text and it's a century after the original stuff. platzapS fucked around with this message at 03:48 on Sep 28, 2016 |
