Corla Plankun posted:how hard is it to re-use batteries from old electronics (for example crappy flip phones, that kind of thing)? it would be cool to make mobile projects that didnt have to involve buying a shitload of batteries all the time Batteries are wear items so basically if anything's non-standardized, it's probably too old to be useful but for example the Yaesu VX-3r handheld uses a super standard NP60 camera battery so you can just buy some for $3 each off Amazon. going that way is the best we have 14500 and 18650 cells these days which are a good form factor to build around too

My 4 year old sony laptop refused to turn on day before yesterday. When i tried the fan went on for a couple of seconds then there was a clicking noise and it died. After googling a bit i removed the battery and power cord and let it sit over night, after which it worked as normal, so i did a backup on everything important. Today it refuses to start again. From what i can understand its either the hdd or the power unit thats clicking. Should i just buy a new computer or what

yeah if they've updated the non-xps lines w/ the same guts/screens as the xpses then they're probably the same thing w/ different customization. the Microsoft edition or w/e xps15 is the one I got from Microsoft store and its good. ` mine has the 960m but I wonder if they're gonna release a newer one with the mobile pascal gpus which are apparently real good.

airs are good if you want a super portable thing with a fair battery life to do stuff that isn't compute intensive i personally don't enjoy them because i want a 15" screen and to be able to run stuff on them, but they have valid use cases this said, having had a bunch of previous gen precisions, my current gen hilariously overspec'ed 7510 has been pretty good, and i'm sure the series 3000 & 5000 would be needs suiting it really depends on the actual use case, stuff like being able to use a quadro card would dictate if it's relevant to bump up to a precision or not

wifi chip on my surface pro 2 just decided to drop packets when connected to 5 GhZ. Instead of loving around to get it to work in 2.4 GhZ only, just said gently caress it and have it connecting to the router in AP mode in the basement that only works with 2.4 GhZ

i know how pcs work and i could pull the hd and retrieve whatever poo poo and wouldn't have to deal with icloud being a hopeless pice of poo poo my wife uses the mac the way it's kinda of designed to be used, ie, does thing and walks away. never shuts down apps or documents and just hits save and etc and consequently i have no idea where anything is on that thing ever or if it's on icloud coz unlike dropbox icloud doesn't seem to tell you if something has updated to cloud or how to force it the problem is mostly that it's her mac and i barely use it but when it's time to play cj it's like trying to solve a black box riddle as to how to fix whatever problem
