NihilCredo posted:Bearing in mind that I'm only Tier 3 and have been piloting King Crabs for a few weeks - my experience is that dakka crabs and gauss crabs are pretty easily cored and do best running a big XL engine and trying to go for good positioning and maxxxxxxxed out firepower by either adding energy weapons or mixing in some AC/2s. Your CT will only hold out so long (hence why I find the XL worth it on this particular build), but if you can take down 150+ tons of enemy mechs before dying you're still good. I used to run an XL340 with 4 x uac5 + 2 x LPL, I guess I'll go back to it. It's fragile as gently caress but it seemed to be quite scary as most people ran when I came round the corner blasting that lot

the thing about the King Crab is that it is scariest a) on the second line b) about 5-600 meters away from the enemy c) completely out in the open those three conditions are difficult to achieve in this game. Also the KDK-3 does that just as well, only it can also hill-hump or side-peek better

Can confirm dakkawolf is still amusing. Christ I need to play more on weeknights rather than weekends, everything is so much more chill and so much less tryhardy.

Thanks for all the info on clan mechs yesterday, I did manage to misunderstand one thing though. I never realized you could buy omnipods from different chassis separately so I spent almost 30 million c-bills on 3 TBR chassis while I in reality only needed 1. I bought the TBR-A, TBR-S and TBR-PRIME. But I guess I would need them anyway to master the chassis so it's not that big of a loss. It is my first clan mech and now I understand why they are so powerful, the TBR without any upgrades controls almost like a mastered Warhammer WHM-6D. The LPL range is ~640 meters with a range module but no mech upgrades. It's pretty insane. And I don't die instantly from having a side torso blown off. Can't imagine what the game was like before the IS quirks.

Clan laservomit actually could do with tripple basics when it comes to heat management. Your selection on timbers is good. The main drawback for clan is less weapons per ghost heat group (2 large lasers instead of 3 for IS) more heat and longer duration, which in turn means more facetime. The cannons arent pintpoint but salvo, so you have a harder time snapshotting. But theyre all lighter and take up less space usually.

Great Beer posted:Keys are worthless. It's drat near impossible to get crates without an event. Just let me gamble, pgi. One crate every 24 matches on average = "drat near impossible"? The odds of getting good rewards are hidden and almost certainly hilariously bad. But the odds of getting crates aren't. (Now if you're talking about getting good crates, rather than the insta-sell ones with poo poo modules and awful common/uncommon payouts, then yeah.)

NihilCredo posted:One crate every 24 matches on average = "drat near impossible"? 24 matches is about 3.5 hours of playtime assuming matches never last longer than 8 minutes and no wait time. And because lol averages half the time you wait even longer than that. Team fortress had the same problem with item drops when they were introduced: Averages dont always happen and its super frustrating to play for days or weeks and still not have an item drop. Thats why they switched to having the server roll for when you would get a new item instead of rolling for if you got one. The short version of my rambling complaint is basically why is PGI making it so hard to give them money

I'm just too lazy to care. e: just checked, 56 boxes 17 keys. might as well open a few. I just went through about half of the boxes, and one thing I noticed, the items in the boxes are -not- random. There seems to be a limited number of actual boxes, and the items contained within will always be the same when it rolls that particular box. Heh, I just sold 51 boxes and only opened 6. Most boxes are garbage. veedubfreak fucked around with this message at 23:11 on Sep 29, 2016 |

NihilCredo posted:One crate every 24 matches on average = "drat near impossible"? I've gotten maybe 3 crates since the system dropped, but then again between the slow UI, slow matchmaking, and 10 minute walk before 2 minutes of fighting, 24 matches can take a while.

Hey 19, just how bad are the population numbers. I swear its the same people I see every day. The game is really not fun any more in any sort of fashion unless you like sniping or lrming. I made it a whopping 4 games before I got sick of being sniped to death trying to get to the fight.

Like the Dire Wolf could've easily been a Hohiro or Widowmaker or Prometheus. Assuming they're staying away from the variants that have weapons that aren't in MWO like HAGs or Swarm LRMs. e: Anyone have any suggestions for which heavy i should go buy 3 variants of? I got alot of cbills and might as well while they're on sale. Already mastered out the Orion-IIC. Rysithusiku fucked around with this message at 00:53 on Sep 30, 2016 |

Warhams are amazing for IS. Jags and Timbros are basically the same mech, the Timbro gets jump jets while the Jag gets high mounts and weighs 10 tons less.

Edit: Even if he did wind up piloting a Mad Cat for most of his career (because Stackpole forgot his preference after the Blood of Kerensky trilogy) it would've been in Alpha Galaxy's green and gold or the generic Clan Wolf "gray on gray" scheme. Not that blue and yellow monstrosity. They just kinda poo poo a bunch of names into a bucket coming up with these heroes, didn't they? And they already made the Timber Wolf Pryde a standard mech, so they missed on that opportunity. Meanwhile, the 'Pride' Summoner is thoroughly meaningless. That kit fox, though.. looks pretty damned mandatory if you want to pilot kit foxes. Those torso omnipods vastly improve the value of the platform. The Direwolf hero also adds 2 ballistic slots to the total number it can have. 8xUAC/2 is now a possibility. That's a gauss rifle's worth of damage twice a second. Xenothral posted:And Aiden Pryde in a Summoner?? He died in a timber wolf, but the overwhelming majority of his career was in a Summoner. This is actually a good lore decision. Furthermore, it is my opinion that Sean Payton must be fired.
