The thing is, and I've been thinking about this a lot, the idea that this is a clever way to deflect the Cuba/Foundation stories is wrong. Trump doesn't react to those because he doesn't care, and the GOP doesn't react to them because a corrupt businessman is basically what they expect out of their candidate. He doesn't care because he doesn't care about the legality of his actions and the idea that he could break the law for business purposes actually seems praiseworthy to him, 'It just makes me smart'. So without a personal insult to hook him or a shock to expectations, no-one gives much of a gently caress outside of potentially cuban expats in florida (which could be a big deal). What hooks him is personal hooks; he thinks of everything in terms of himself and if he feels insulted or belittled he will do anything to reassert his dominance. The Khans got him because they said he was worthless, that he'd sacrificed nothing and done nothing; he couldn't let that stand without trying to 'correct' it. This has him because it's someone he thinks of as a total inferior attacking him over something where he doesn't even understand why what he said was wrong, and it comes on the heels of him getting not just humiliated but LAUGHED AT by the crowd in front of millions of people.

DICKS FOR DINNER posted:How much effort do you think it took Conway to keep him quiet-ish and less blatantly stupid/bigoted in September? She's probably ready to accept Death's sweet embrace if he should come to her before the end of the campaign. Conway probably isn't happy Trump keeps being loving terrible at politics by exacerbating scandals on Twitter at 3am, but she probably agrees with the sentiment in those tweets. Unless she resigns from the campaign before the election with a press conference about what a tool Trump is then I'm going to assume she is a professional and a Trump supporter. She would have walked after blatantly lying about easily checkable stuff on Rachel Maddow shortly after getting the job if she was able to have those kinds of feelings.

Her campaign might have leaked it themselves. It makes her look reasonable and is the kind of talk that might sway even more GOP'ers or Boomers to her side. Yeah, my own political leanings are more toward Sanders, but I don't see how this hurts her now that the primaries are well over and the nature of Donald Trump is very clear.

It's headline click-bait, which sucks because that is what everyone remembers now. She makes it very clear that she doesn't want to promise those things because they won't happen, and wants to focus on what she can actually accomplish. I've seen comments around basically saying "WHY NOT NOW $HILLARY?" And you just have to shake your head and think "uh have you forgotten about the 40% of people that are voting for Trump?
