There are dinosaur specimens described on only very partial pieces of skeletons, but scientists are able to make educated conjecture on whether it is a new species or not by comparing it to similar fossils we have, usually because those fossils usually aren't just a jawbone, it's pieces of jawbone, some of the hip and then teeth and such. If they are similar enough to another species it's easy enough to extrapolate they belonged to a similar animal.

If they are too different from known fossils but still have the traits of a certain group it's usually just illustrated as one until we have more complete evidence to work from, placeholder reconstructions.

Extrapolation isn't guesswork

Conservatives think science is a collection of arbitrary definitive statements instead of a continually-refined set of approximations because they can't imagine ever questioning what you know and changing your mind based on new evidence.

The fact of the matter is that is how most "alpha male" figures really are. They act like super tough guys and like nothing bothers them and they're all in charge, but it's an act. Actual confident figures who aren't horribly insecure tend to not be show offs or engage in any of that "Alpha male" bullshit. Hell, the new use for this term was bred on pick-up forums. You know, where misogynists lie about their sexual exploits to scam insecure young males/other misogynists out of money. The image came from people pretending to be confident, in control, and "able to get any woman they want by following 8 simple steps." So, it should come as no surprise they conflate the concept of an "alpha male" with Donald Trump, an accused rapist scammer. Hell, "accused rapist scammer" is a good description for most PUAs.

Well I mean yes, obviously, but it's not often that the act is so thin and transparent but so widely accepted. Media reports have him as this tough, tell truths to power, no nonsense guy - alt right has him as based and alpha and all his opponents as worthless effete cucks, etc.

The dude literally spends his whole time whining like a 6 year old with a skinned knee but is uncritically accepted as this tough, masculine, capable sort. I get how stupid people could find the idea of excluding all muslims and mexicans from the country appealing, but really cannot stretch my mind far enough to figure out how anyone can see him as anything other than a blustering, insecure, whiny little babby.

I really hate when people think he's a genuine American rags-to-riches, bootstraps type of guy. His father was a millionaire. He brags about the fact his kids are in the directory listing of the top 1% (because the money has to be in the family for three generations) while pretending it doesn't bother him that he's not.

Hahaha! Just imagine Donald read that sentence and for that reason alone he decided he must become president. Because not even he can retroactively make his grandparents that rich.

He doesn't really seem interested in the policies, paperwork, presidential salary, stress, living in the white house, meeting foreign leaders, keeping any of his promises, or looking presidential in any form whatsoever. This is probably the only perk he actually wants.
On the other hand if he was president there might be a portrait of him in every mayor public office space and military base.

In a way, it might be for the best that Clinton was paired against Trump. With all the implicit baggage around the idea of a woman president in America, setting her against such a horrible opponent may be the best way we get a woman in the white house and open people up to the idea so its easier going forward. If it wasn't Trump but Cruz, sexism would have certainly been enough to keep Clinton from the White House since Cruz could be good enough for sexists not to spam Hillary out of fear.
