Reading Marching Powder's posts gives me mixed feelings. On one hand I can appreciate the grim beauty of a crow poking out the eye of a bloated corpse as it floats down the Ganges, but on the other hand I know it's going to spread disease and decay downstream.

At this point I think the first crow's dead, a second crow's started on the other eye, maggots are hatching and attracting fish which are in turn attracting gulls and the whole shebang is most of the way through the Bay of Bengal and well on its way to the Indian ocean by now.

Chris is a techno-visionary like Steve Jobs and if you can't handle his exacting perfectionism at every level of design than you don't belong at CIG. But also some intern can just take over and crap out a golf-swing mechanic as a core feature of the game and Chris probably just didn't notice, and then that feature was shown to the public. Again without Chris knowing about it. This happened all the time at Apple. fffffaarrrttt.

There's a difference between simplification and accessibility. One's making sure your tutorial is comprehensive, your mechanics well explained, your controls generally intuitive. The other involves golf club-styled mechanics.

Can someone explain to me why Croberts uses the term MVP at all, and why this is seen as a good thing? Minimum viable product. Minimum. Why would I loudly proclaim that I will give you the least that I can get away with? Of all the weird things about SC this one is the strangest to me.

Because he's not good with regular words so everything has to be made to sound special, even when the actual meaning of the special term would sensibly interpreted completely differently from what he intends. Compare “refactoring” (meaning, not actual refactoring, but trashing work and starting over), or “never been done before” (meaning, he wasn't the one doing it when it was all the rage, 10 or 20 years ago), or “unique” (meaning, it's been done, but found to be a bad idea so no-one does it that way any more). MVP is just another term he's latched on to because it lets him say that they won't deliver the game they sold, but without saying that they won't deliver the game they've sold.
