trump owes some corporate entity money. that entity and trump are colliding and neither party wants trump to actually pay it back. they can't just forgive the debt, tho, because that has tax consequences that trump wouldn't enjoy. the corporate entity can't just let the debt chillax on their books tho because they're subject to account scrutiny and that poo poo would look weird af

instead they sell the debt to a third party, subject to lower scrutiny or to zero domestic scrutiny. this third party can and does let the debt chillax w/o seeking to collect, and the original creditor records a sale of the outstanding debt at admittedly sweetheart rates but i guess that happens sometimes in business and doesn't look immediately suspicious

assuming trump paid the third party's costs to purchase the debt, he's out pennies for the dollars of capital he received originally, w/o tax burden for any of it.

it's money laundering basically, right? i mean i know nothing about finance and am in fact a total idiot, but i think i understand this

Oh I see. So he owes his own corporation the money to begin with. I think that's what I was missing.

So far the big surprise releases about Hillary have been:

- Not treating Sanders as a legitimate contender months before any voting had started

At this rate, Tuesday's announcement will be Hillary getting frustrated by the end of Legend of Zelda II or something.

if kasich had been the republican nominee, the candidates would not have polled more than a point or two apart after the conventions and republicans would be looking at a likely win due to lower turnout. polls lookin like 41-40 all day every day. complete lack of excitement. the republican path to the white house involves a low amount of interest among the american public and kasich/clinton would've been hell of boring.

but i've thought kasich was the best chance for a republican victory since the beginning of the primaries.

i think that if tim kaine does what we expect him to and just curbstomps mike pence for 90 minutes, because mike pence is a colossal piece of human garbage, that trump might back out of the other two debates. there's virtually no reasonable way out of this one because it has to do with economic policy and goes completely against his campaign message which was the one thing appealing to his base, aside from the blatant racism. pence is gonna get hit on it during the debate as well, most likely, so it's just a double whammy of it all being nationally televised. it's better to just let it go and not have it brought up during the other presidential debates and hope that it somehow fades from the limelight than keep reminding people of it when 80+ million people are watching.

imagine that yr mom wants to give you $100 but can't because yr stepdad monitors the finances too closely and wouldn't approve

so she lends you $105 instead and you give her an iou

she turns around and sells the iou to yr dog for $5, which you have given to the dog

yr stepdad doesn't check the dogs finances so doesn't notice/care that the dog aint collecting, and you don't owe yr mom anything

but you still got $100 clean out of the deal

Kasich was elected in a tea party wave and has been only a mildly more subtle Koch Shill-level governor than Walker, Scott et al so him suddenly being crucified as a rino because he doesn't want to execute brown people is extremely telling for the republican lunatic media

I probably would have voted for Kasich over Hillary if he was the nominee. I know he has significant drawbacks but more than I want him to be president, I want someone like Kasich to be the leader of the Republican party. After Trump loses then that role is going to default back to Rush Limbaugh and nothing changes.

it still seems like it would come up in audits that you lost a very large amount of capital lending money then selling the debt on that money for a fraction of its worth, or is that just business as usual in the insane capital markets Trump sucked dry? it's amazing that any of this poo poo is allowed to happen

someone asked last night why, if they had anything, would they release it wednesday instead of last night when the conversation was peaking

the answer is because they do not have anything. there is nothing for them to have. for MONTHS now, at times when trump fuckups are in the news, wikileaks comes out and says "WE HAVE A NEW BATCH OF HILLARY CRIMES. WE WILL RELEASE THEM SOON." then news outlets release stories with the headline "WIKILEAKS TO RELEASE NEW INFORMATION ON HILLARY CLINTON." then they don't release poo poo and no one cares. the announcement is the point, because it keeps "HILLARY IS A CORRUPT LIAR WHO USES EMAILS" in the news despite there being zero actual reason for it to be.

wikileaks came out last night and said they'd release stuff in the future because the announcement is the news, not the content, of which there is none.

selling off debt happens all the time and im guessing the difference between the nominal debt and the sale price can be taken as a loss, lowering the company's tax burden

so it looks like just another commonly used line item that lowers taxes, and no one looks closely until something like this happens

again i know sweet gently caress all re finances and tax but this is how it all works out in my head
