This sounds like some sort of strange American thing I'm not aware of where coupon = grave insult? Then again, where I live you can buy a book of coupons for various local restaurants and attractions with part of the proceeds going toward charity, so there less of a negative connotation? Alternatively... What if I'm a horrifying goony goon and my partner has been silently cringing all this time, too polite to say anything?!

She's leaving things out of that story. If I had to hazard a guess she probably never hangs out unless it's at her house and the rare times she goes out she does nothing but complain about the prices all night. That poo poo gets annoying. It's like hanging out with George Costanza all the time. Now ending a friendship over something easily fixed like that is pretty childish, but as everyone has said the relationship has probably been on the outs for awhile and this "miserly" invite may have just been the last straw.

We have those too, and people go to restaurants all the time using Groupons and other huge discounts. Some people don't using coupons because they don't like to look cheap, but I think Solice has it right. I have a friend who would come to restaurants and not eat anything, then go to McDonald's on the way home. We drew the line at him bringing outside food to the restaurants, but other than that it was fine.

It's an American thing for the randomest poo poo to set people off Actually that's probably world-wide but yes people and their pride are funny. Source: A childhood friend and I shattered a friendship because he was told I said some "mean stuff" (while in the presence of his gf's friends, we were all in the same tiny, cramped living room) and I was too proud to sort it out because what a little bitch, i don't have time for insecure people And that's my daily contribution to the BWM thread

Bingo. Like Switchback said earlier, it has more to do with their friendship than the bill. If they weren't both terrible shits, they could navigate it easily and a coupon would barely be a blip on the radar. Thrifty is great. Thrifty is reasonable. Playing within your budget can be difficult but is a necessary thing to do. I doubt that's what's happening here. I had a friend in high school who was a total miser and it became too much to deal with. She was always willing to "share" as long as it was one direction. She wasn't a mooch, she had a compulsion problem. She'd tell you how much money she'd hoarded from skipping lunch and pocketing her lunch money while sharing your lunch. She'd begrudgingly go out to eat with you (you couldn't eat at her house unless her mom was home to feed you because she hoarded food, had no prob eating at my house) and order the cheapest thing with water and expect to share your drink at minimum, she'd go to the mall and shoplift, she'd brag about her straight A's while trying to cheat off my tests, she texted my husband the night of my wedding because she was mad he broke up with her months before we started dating What I'm saying is, there's more to the story.

On his financial disclosure forms to the FEC he reported that his total worth in just over $11 billion, that his name was worth $3.5 billion, and that many of his hotels and properties were using a higher valuation estimate than they would normally be assessed, because a "Trump Hotel" is worth much more than a regular hotel. So, it is all self-reported and very vague.

There's a whole forum for talking about Trump if you really hate yourself that much, but there's only one thread to talk about a guy who wants to live in his car in a place where he can't even get out of it to cook and lacks access to water and electricity, but ha decided this is for the best because of his crushing CC and loan debt.

This guy is screwed but I honestly feel bad for him. He's gotten himself a job, he's got a plan (a dumb one, but a plan anyhow), and it doesn't rely on some kind of magical "investment" coming out of nowhere or a get-rich scheme or exploiting anyone else. His plan isn't going to work, but maybe he can roomie-up with another airport worker, or get to park his vehicle at their place, or something. He was smart/educated enough to get a job. Good for him, I wish him the best despite his foolish plan.

I love people that throw out their expected income in x many years as if it has any meaning. Well sure i owe $300k and blow $50k a year on top of that but I'm in med school and in seven years I'll be making $70k as a resident!
