At Deadly or Elite, NPCs get access to engineer upgrades. This means that FDLs can have resist/boosted shields plus cells out the yinyang, making them annoying to take down unless you have relatively high DPS. Do you have Overcharge on your MCs as well as Incendiary?

Also, yes, use FA/OFF. Assuming you have modified boosters you should still be turning faster than the FDL, although you'll never stay on its rear end for long.

This is why the engineer grind is incredibly non-optional if you're farting about with a combat rank of Master or higher. Which frankly you can achieve pretty easily just from RES farming.
For anyone who doesn't get what I mean your combat rank directly affects the quality/difficulty of spawned NPCs and no you can't tank your ranking.

Know what would be nice? If completing missions, hauling trade goods, handing in bounties and exploration data had a chance to reward you with a random engineer upgrade token that you could apply to a ship and module of your choice. It'd not be as reliable or efficient a way of obtaining upgrades, especially the best ones, as purposefully grinding the engineers, but at least you'd still get something more rewarding than just more money, and a taste of the upgrades might even give people more motivation to pursue engineers than they otherwise would have.

I think you should be able to haggle, i.e. get a reroll on the goodies offered as mission reward, in exchange for rep loss or less monetary reward. That way you'd be less frustrated and find the needed components quicker.

Id rather go with "4 randoms or 1 specific" to be honest.
That way i could farm them by doing missions instead of flipping the board for up to 5 hours.

Also which rear end in a top hat decided you need amounts of stuff for engineer unlocks that are not multiples of mission rewards.

A guy over on the HCS VoicePack boards made a multi-crew profile which is great if you have multiple voice packs from them already. It lets you assign one to tactical, one to comms, and one to flight, and will randomly assign them on request. It's so good that he's been picked up to make it part of the official packs. Apparently there's a beta version of it in the new Astra release, although I've been using a heavily-modified version of the unofficial version for awhile now and the new version is buggy so I'll be waiting a bit before changing. You can check out the thread about it here: http://forum.hcsvoicepacks.com/forum/elite-dangerous-discussion/6398-v2-0-multi-crew-profile

And yeah, they're still doing updates, apparently they've already put together some stuff for 2.2 when it hits like voice commands for fighter control.

Yeah, the fact that EDDB is even necessary is shocking. Why there's not some kind of proper trade interface built into the game itself is beyond me.

That being said, with EDDB, trading can actually be fun.

For a game that (imo) doesn't have a lot going for it besides amazing detail, immersion, and for some VR, you would think they'd do everything possible to integrate stuff into the game so we *don't* have to either tab out or rock a second monitor and pull away from the ingame experience.

I don't know the first thing about game development theory but I'd think a big no no would be drat near requiring you to be outside of the game to continue playing it. So much seemingly basic info is only available on a wiki or inara. At least if you aren't either staring at the module/ship or at the station in question.

Yes it can. Hilariously, the Extended Ammo mod for it is particularly awesome - it increases both your maximum ammo pool (always nice as missiles tend to be limited in that regard) and the 'magazine' size for the launcher - and the swarm launcher empties out the whole magazine in one salvo. Your reload time of course tend to go up at about the same rate but there's nothing quite like just one missile rack belching ten drunken seeker warheads.

A "fun" beta bug:

I just got interdicted by an anaconda pirate, so I launched a fighter. He launched a fighter. By this point he was firing on my Cutter, but I'm not sure if his fighter had yet. They were both, however, red on the radar. I shot at his fighter...and got a bounty, and then, of course, a larger bounty when I "murdered" him.

Depends. The Fer-de-lance and Gunship both have 4 medium slots for packhounds. The Gunship probably barely eeks out a win because it also has two small slots for shield-breaking torpedoes.

I would love to see a couple of missile boats vs. an Anaconda w/ 8x point-defence turrets. Really there needs to be more missiles and point-defense in the meta simply because more pew pew and explosions equals better.

Gunship is the obvious candidate, Dropship too (large mount for laser to bring down shields).
I was thinking about a Missileboat-Asp the other day (2 missile racks and 4 pedo-tubes)

The imperial courier has 3 medium mounts too and is maneuverable enough to deliver them where you want them, but you would need a wingman to cut down shields.
Imp.Eagle has 2 small and a medium, this kinda reeks of 2xshieldraper torpedos and a missile rack for the power plant, but i dont know if that alone would bring down a larger ship. Especially since 0% PP doesnt auto-explode anymore.

If i was into pvp id prolly go with missiles-to-the-windshield all day long. Not for kills, just to grief people back into spaceports.

Why do people keep saying map is bad in VR? I mean, it's not great, but at least when I want to select a star it happens, rather than having to click on it 300000 times, like when I try to select things with the mouse.

All you need to do is go into options and bind all map axis. Boom, VR map is now less annoying than mouse map.
