Grey Fox posted:Nightmare scenario: Pence gets praised for debate performance, Trump deliberately blows next two debates, quits the race, and Pence wins on a tidal wave of ignorance having never directly debated Hillary. It would also require Trump to set aside his ego in service of a higher cause. Which, well, you know.

pence looked more presidential than his running mate, which improves pence's image a bit but since his running mate is the one running for POTUS, this makes his ticket look worse. imho

It's looking like the Russia comments are already getting some play. I will die laughing if the takeaway from this debate is heightened awareness of Trump's inexplicable Russia connections.

kaine did not come across as a tactful, master politician a la diamond joe or HRC. pence is a horrible subhuman troll person for the plethora of horrific beliefs he holds, but he looked and sounded prepared, and kaine came across as all of the worst "step dad" stereotypes that every late night comedian has been riffing on since the DNC. if TRUMP could've managed to completely disappear immediately following the RNC and allowed pence to be the sole voice of the campaign, they might actually be polling even with HRC. fortunately TRUMP's varied psychoses won't allow that to happen.

This wasn't good for anyone, but the Republicans really needed a Hail Mary. They did not get it. As such, it's basically keeping things status quo, which basically means that the Democrats won. That said, I would've liked to of seen Mike Pence get taken to task for being a piece of poo poo

It's too late for trump to drop out at this point This is only true if you think Americans are too dumb to understand several weeks of ad bombardment telling them variations of "A vote for Trump is literally a vote for Mike Pence. He will be president, not Donald Trump, who will not be involved except informally because we do still love him we swear" Which I'm not saying is wrong, but I think it's a pretty silly hangup. The ticket is still the ticket, Pence can pick a VP or they can pick a new ticket, people will get it. I think.

Despera posted:That was really weird of pence to bring up Putin so much I don't know that Pence was deliberately setting himself up for 2020 like pundits are saying but at some point of that debate (or maybe before) he clearly made the decision that he was playing for himself and didn't give a poo poo what Trump has said. Ironically I think it hurts this 2020 thing because tomorrow the story is "Pence lied".
