Can someone help me remember the name of a band/album. The album I'm thinking of is black metalish and had a green woman/nymph kneeling looking at something in her hands/on the ground on the cover. I thought Atilla Csihar had some relation to the band, but looking at metal archives I can't find anything. This is an older album, like mid-late 90s, maybe early 2000s as I remember seeing it right when I was getting into more extreme metal. Any help would be much appreciated.

What style was the cover drawn in? There's a reissue cover of a Mortiis album that vaguely fits the description, although it's not metal: http://imgur.com/a/bMMS2

I have a semi-metal related question and I don't know where else to ask it: Dude at work turned me onto Nails. At first I wasn't feeling it, but by the end of that first album I listened to(Unsilent Death) I was hooked. It's totally not my normal thing, but goddamn, they are heavy as gently caress.

What else is there out there that I would maybe like that is similar to Nails? Is there a better thread to ask this in? I don't even know what you call this kind of poo poo.

Trap Them, Baptists, any band that Kurt Ballou has produced is a good bet.

Try out Harm's Way. They are really heavy hardcore, which Nails is more of a hardcore band with grindcore influences.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZDfT0u5GAo

If you like this then try out Trap Them like the other poster suggested.

Apparently the actual song Violent Sleep of Reason is incredible, as is the rest of the album from what reviewers have written. Been hoping for a leak to listen to it early but looks like I'll have to actually wait for it to come out legitimately.

It finally leaked and I got a chance to listen to it. It's intense - I don't think I found myself having a lot of trouble wrapping my mind around a Meshuggah album in a while. It'll take a few listens to jive with it. My first impression is there's a surprising amount of Nothing on this one. I'm not sure if that's to its benefit or not (I'm not personally a Nothing fan), but it's fun and there's a lot going on here. It's a solid release, maybe their best to date.

As for some other Japanese bands, check out Gore Beyond Necropsy, 324, and Catasexual Urge Motivation.

I figured it out, the band/album was Ophthalamia - Via Dolorosa. I've posted a picture of the cover below. No relation to Atilla, but they have crossover with Abruptum. Dunno how I got that mixed up.

Listened to the leak and Violent Sleep of Reason might be my favorite Meshuggah song. e: for some reason I can't link the Agatus playlist of the whole album; well it'll all be there in the sidebar, or just search for "Agatus The Eternalist" -- this one needs to be heard in full and in the right order

Probably because of the similarity to the title of a 70s/80s horror movie, that Burnt Offering reminded me of another group of thrashers from the 80s, Ghost Story, who were local to me and whose music would show up on a GA Tech radio show from time to time. I have no idea how known they were outside of my bubble here. They had a very Exodus type sound.

Apparently they had a song on Metal Massacre 10 and half of them are now in Blackberry Smoke. Ha.

And if you like somewhat techy thrash akin to Anacrusis, there was Kinetic Dissent, also from my fair city. They were on Roadracer so I assume more than a few people know of them.

Master's Apprentices is insanely heavy for E standard though. Drop tuning doesn't really matter, but something about B standard does instantly make you sound more death metal.

I think Meshuggah technically tune up half a step (all the bass tabs I can find are anyway) but spend so much time on an extra low string that they get that super heavy sound.

B standard is what most doom bands use I believe. Drop A is usually brutal death metal, but any tuning could be used for anything really.
