From Rumor Has It That ABC and CNN Are Feuding Hard Ahead of Next Week’s Debate posted by freeper orchestra

It's an article on Mediaite, which is a very odd thing to see on freep.

the article posted:

Specifically, each one of them reportedly wants to be the one who hits Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump with the hard questions.

Page Six reported that sources close to the two networks are describing the D.C. meetings between both networks’ producers, talent, and executives as “acrimonious at best.” Here’s the full quote:

quote:

Getting the two networks together has been a challenge. They are feuding over petty things, such as ‘Who does each particular topic?’ Both Anderson and Martha want to shine, to be tough on the candidates, and not to be accused of bias. There’s a lot at stake. So there’s a lot of turf-grabbing going on — attempts to box each other out to get the territory they are most well-suited for … They are supposed to be deep in rehearsals — the anchors and their teams have met a bunch of times, and the atmosphere has been acrimonious at best, at all levels, from the producers right up to the execs.

So this is a good kind of disagreement, not a bad kind, assuming you trust those filthy MSM leftists.

If Hillary speaks of nastiness by Trump's campaign, there's Hillary's basket of deplorables, Hillary's taco bowl latinos, Hillary's super-predator blacks and Hillary speaking of Bernie supporters living in basements. All the cards are in Trump's hand. He needs to use them.

She lit a cigarette. Her boyfriend, Kevin Lisovich, was next to her on the couch, drifting to sleep, a pillow over his head. On the ottoman was her cellphone, her notes on the speakers so far — “LOCK HER UP!!” she had written — and the anti-anxiety pills she kept in a silver vial on her keychain.

She was a 52-year-old woman who had worked 20 years for the railroad, had once been a Democrat and was now a Republican, and counted herself among the growing swath of people who occupied the fringes of American politics but were increasingly becoming part of the mainstream. Like millions of others, she believed that President Obama was a Muslim. And like so many she had gotten to know online through social media, she also believed that he was likely gay, that Michelle Obama could be a man, and that the Obama children were possibly kidnapped from a family now searching for them.

And now for something completely different.

From Andy Stanley Defends Teaching Methods Against Charges His Approach Undermines Scripture posted by freeper Gamecock.

quote:

Pastor Andy Stanley is defending his approach to preaching amid questions from prominent evangelical leaders who contend his methods undermine the Bible's authority and pave the way for unbelief.
[...]
Controversy arose in light of Stanley's recent sermon series wherein he argued that because increasing numbers of people in the United States do not lend credence to the Bible, Christians should dispense with the "because the Bible told me so" rationale for believing its truth claims.

Appeals to biblical authority do not translate particularly for millennials who pursue higher education beyond high school, Stanley said.

"The dechurched who grew up in church exit because they find the version of Christianity they've grown up with unconvincing, uninspiring and irrelevant," Stanley said. Moreover, ample evidence exists for the resurrection and the claims Jesus made about Himself even if one does not believe that a worldwide flood took place or Hebrew exodus from Egypt occurred, he said.

But such a tack bothered Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Al Mohler who wrote last week on his website that defenses of the Christian faith have never been more necessary. And it is impossible to access that faith without the written Word. Stanley, Mohler argued, was "undercutting our only means of knowing Christ and His resurrection from the dead — the Bible," and warned that his approach would inexorably lead to "abject disaster" for the Church.

"This is an apologetic disaster and would leave Christians with no authoritative Scripture. Instead, we would be dependent upon historians (among others) to tell us what parts of both testaments we can still believe," Mohler said.

"Those parts will inevitably grow fewer and fewer. This is what must happen when the total trustworthiness, sufficiency, and authority of the Bible is subverted," Mohler continued.

I get the feeling we're gonna see a savagesusie post in this thread.

Stanley isn’t the issue; it is the sin of sending children to government schools to be schooled in atheism and statism that is the issue.

Freepers can't irony.

Christians should dispense with the “because the Bible told me so” rationale for believing its truth claims.

I tend to agree with that, if only because of some of the arguments I’ve had with devout believers. In one case, the guy, red faced, lifted his big KJV above his head and said, “I believe what the word says”. I said, “I do too. Where we differ is in our interpretation.”

People often use the word to support their beliefs that they acquired in Summer Junior Bible School and have not studied it since. i.e. they can’t support their position from a biblical perspective and refuse to even open the bible with you to discuss it. Further, they call you a heretic, or worse, because you disagree with that opinion.

Kinda weird, when you think about it. It is also a textbook example of dogmatism. It’s fine to disagree with someone, but you need to be able to back up your claims and successfully refute theirs, especially before calling them an agent of Satan. Just sayin’.

Our post-Christian culture is to a large extent a result of the government school system (plus the media, and “pastors” like this). The Barna surveys indicate that something like 80-90% of children (from Christian parents) who attend government schools leave school at age 18 with a secular humanist worldview.

The Proverbs tell us to “get wisdom” and “get understanding”. Fools are unwilling to learn. This culture, including Christians, seems largely unwilling to learn. That is why regardless of who we elect in November, the Republic as we know it could be finished in less than a generation.

I belong to a very small church, and I am not a fan of Stanley. The issue, however, is the worldview of the majority of the millenials and others. Whether Stanly has a way to reach them or not is secondary. The important question is how we got into this situation, and the answer is that Christian parents and the church have been all too willing to hand children over to a government school system that aggressively disciples them in paganism. So, my friend, as I was saying, the “point” of the article misses the point, as do BOTH Stanley and Mohler.

I’ve been having a “crisis of church” the last few years. I moved from Seattle to south central, rural Kentucky and am SHOCKED at how many people here are STRONG “Christians”, but there are some attributes that confuse me:

1. They always seem miserable.
2. They really don’t know the bible.
3. If you try to discuss the “deeper” meaning/ramifications of scripture and beliefs, they have zero to offer.
4. If you bring up something they disagree with, they go all bigot on you. I use that word specifically because their response fits the definition precisely.
5. A LOT of people go to church here because it is “what you do” and they are petrified of suffering in a fire for eternity. That even trumps the salvation. Salvation is seen by them not as a wonderful thing to bring them into eternal fellowship with Christ. Rather, it is a “get out of hell free” card. The true gospel message is secondary.

It makes it very hard to attend any church here.

My daughter went to public schools...all the way through college. Her faith and approach to life are just fine. Her believes are solidly Christian and she is very good at the job she does.

You put yourself out as wise counsel....maybe so maybe not.

Two people do not make a population. There are about 50 million government school students in this country. Of the ones who are Christians, 80-90% finish government schooling with a secular humanist worldview. So you are saying that your daughter was in the 10-20%. But since she hasn’t been independently surveyed about her worldview, we really aren’t sure, are we?

I am not counseling anyone. The social changes that are taking place in the Western world did not randomly appear in the past few decades. They would not be possible without the corruption of our institutions. Government schooling and the media have been leading the charge. I have simply pointed out that Christians have the opportunity to separate themselves from the trash, but most are not interested in doing so. Some, because they are ignorant of what is happening. Others, because they are foolish.

Years ago there was an attempt to get the SBC leadership to endorse the Exodus mandate. The leadership refused, despite (I believe) most of all of the leadership having their children enrolled outside of the government school system. The government school system is a big employer in most jurisdictions. There is a massive amount of money involved. Turning our backs on this system will require sacrifice and courage. Pastors with large churches could stand to lose a lot of money if they offend significant segments of the membership. They won’t do that, because they value lucre over truth.

77 posted on 10/5/2016, 10:25:59 AM by SecAmndmt (Arm yourselves!)

So I made a thing if anyone is bored.

https://github.com/RobertZFord/FreeRepublic

It's a basic Free Republic C# client, written for .NET Core 1.0, I think, but the code is basic enough that it should convert to .NET 4.6.1 with no problems. I started this because I thought it would be fun to make a proxy for FR that made it not look like poo poo, and make it actually look like a normal 2016 website. That's where the client part comes in. Given a thread ID and a page number, it can go to the site and parse some information like topics, keywords, posts, post reply to(s), body, etc. Put this behind an ASP.NET MVC controller and yadda yadda yadda.

I post this with a caveat: the FR site is garbage. Like serious web 0.1 garbage. I'm an awful programmer so I recognize garbage when I see it. Fortunately, I can hide garbage in line of business applications with layer on layer of more bullshit. Not so much here. I tried my best to make sense of the insanity that is their HTML code, but I can't make any guarantees. I think I also tried to make it fairly easy to modify the client library to deal with any changes they make to the site layout.

I also included a three line client application that takes thread 3445608, page 1, and spits the post authors and bodies out to the console. That's it. Inspection of the code will show that the client is pretty simple to use. Give ID and page, get C# objects.

At some point, I was thinking of making something that would archive individual posts to XML files named threadid-page-postnum.xml or something, for data mining purposes. If anyone is interested in it, they can try it themselves, or I'll get around to doing it eventually anyway.

Feel free to fork the library, poo poo on it, call me names, or whatever.

It's like looking into a mirror universe where the freep design stopped in the early 2000s instead of the late 90s.

Way more articles than comments being posted, but it's active. I thought that the "True Blue" or whatever forums were the only "successful" freep splinter group.

Anyway, there were links in a thread there that lead to yet another forum where "Black XXXIII" may have been posted, but either the forum is private or the thread got nuked.

What do you think? Should this be illegal?? I know there is city code enforcement issues with Graffiti but this seems more like a free speech issue to me! Wondering, can people here legally paint their house purple with pink polka dots? Especially right now in an election season... From Sensual Photos Shatter The Idea That Strong Men Can’t Be Vulnerable [Warning: Nudity at link] posted by freeper C19fan

Here's :nws: the article :nws:. There's an ad with dangly bits at the end, but all the photos are mild enough minus a butt. From Dozens of former GOP lawmakers announce opposition to Trump posted by freeper detective

the article posted:

"Our party's nominee this year is a man who makes a mockery of the principles and values we have cherished and which we sought to represent in Congress," the group said in a statement.

"Given the enormous power of the office, every candidate for president must be judged rigorously in assessing whether he or she has the competence, intelligence, knowledge, understanding, empathy, judgment, and temperament necessary to keep America on a safe and steady course," the letter continues. "Donald Trump fails on each of those measures, and he has proven himself manifestly unqualified to be president."
[...]
"In nominating Donald Trump, the Republican Party has asked the people of the United States to entrust their future to a man who insults women, mocks the handicapped, urges that dissent be met with violence, seeks to impose religious tests for entry into the United States, and applies a de facto ethnicity test to judges," the group said.

"He offends our allies and praises dictators. His public statements are peppered with lies. He belittles our heroes and insults the parents of men who have died serving our country. Every day brings a fresh revelation that highlights the unacceptable danger in electing him to lead our nation."

Good to see they aren't holding back, for all the difference it'll make. You all know how this one will play out.

Clearly and I know why.

Hannity has figured out that Megyn started the Miss Universe crap from the jump, when Miss Smarty-pants Megyn posed that nasty loaded question about the names Trump had previously called women during the first primary debate which Donald Trump tried to shrug off with his "Rosie O'Donnell" answer, but tenacious Megyn droned on by mentioning the names recently recalled by Miss Universe.

Too bad for Donald Trump that he didn't realize right then and there that Megyn would go onto to alert Hillary or her campaign.

Like the old adage says, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

Missy Megyn was most assuredly scorned... bleeding from her whatever... and hell bent on getting even and then some.

Ditto Perino, she’s a smarmy Bush family apologist/protector.

Also, can’t watch The Five anymore, either. I got my belly full of their annoying, rude narcissist Gutfeld. What a waste of space!

Definitely. I could barely watch Kelly after the vice presidential debate. The way she attacked Kelly Ann Conway was despicable. She’s shown her unhinged feminist, Clinton loving true self. I have stoped watching her show and now boycott Fox News from 9- 10 pm. We should all do the same and send the new roger aile less Fox News a message.

No statement that includes “U” is intelligent.

The “U” is used to save space. Save your concern for someone else. Hannity is one of the good guys.

Kelly said . . . Clinton makes sure “she is not in a place where she feels uncomfortable or anything unexpected could come at her, which is why she sat for a half an hour with Mary J. Blige, the singer, which is why she did Entertainment Tonight this evening.”

. . . “And Donald Trump, with all due respect to my friend at 10 o’clock, will go on Hannity, and pretty much only Hannity, and will not venture out to the unsafe spaces these days, which doesn’t exactly extend the tent.”

. . . which means either that both candidates are equally feckless in that regard . . . or that Hannity is the only remotely serious person on TV.

It is a given that you, Ms. Kelly, would climb a tree to cast Trump in a bad light - you have tried before, openly - in preference to shine any light on Hillary. Hillary and Trump are about 70 yo, and their health is a legitimate issue. Neither one has been utterly transparent about their health - but from what we have seen, Hillary might have Parkinson’s Disease. She suddenly absents herself from a big public event, thrown into a van like a sack of potatoes, and taken to Chelsea’s house. The SS agents do not act at all as you would expect, if the event were a one-off. Who does that, if there is anything unusual about the episode?

Hillary campaigns very cautiously, and can’t draw flies when she does. Trump, meanwhile, is all over the (purple state) map, enthusiastically appearing in full, ten thousand seat, venues. And yet if you thought about the age/health of the candidates as an issue, and you could get Trump on your show, you would try to make him out to be sickly. Knowing you can’t get Hillary on - and that therefore you would be projecting an unfair image of the actual situation.

So, it’s a Catch-22 for Trump. If he goes on your show, you try to tear him down. If he doesn’t go on your show, you try to tear him down, but at least he isn’t helping you do it. People see that, and they don’t think the worse of Trump for it. You made that bed for yourself - and your network, Hannity aside - when you went after Trump on the primary campaign trail. People who support Trump may not even like much better than you do - but the Republic can stand only so much cynicism in high office. And Hillary seems hell-bent on finding out just how much it can stand.

Maybe a candidate should pick positive venues to present what he can offer the country instead of going on shows where he will be constantly harrassed. Megyn just doesn’t have the imagination to see how close to destruction our country is and has decided to ignore Hillary’s abject sociopathic criminality in favor of her own gender.
