Glenn Beck doesn't aim for the same audience as the rest of the right wing media. His style for a while now has been to be this gentler, more conciliatory, deeply religious conservative (a "compassionate conservative" if you will), with the idea that there are a lot of folks who lean Republican but are uncomfortable with bigotry, at least when it is obvious enough for these people to notice. Stereotypically, this demographic is described as "the Tea Partier's wife" but it's probably broader than that.

He's pretty good at this shtick and knows exactly when to stray back into reality just enough to keep people who aren't completely oblivious from reaching dangerous levels of cognitive dissonance.

So was Ohio just genuinely unable to cough up a good Democratic nominee or what? Ted Strickland seems to be getting buried.

Likely a few pages back, but Strickland is a poo poo candidate. Portman outflanked him by getting a handful of unions to endorse him, and Strickland responded by disparaging the unions in question. He also had a town hall forum in Cleveland back in August where he said out loud what lots of people post in this thread, that Scalia's death was a good thing for labor due to Friedrich's becoming 4-4. That got recorded by an attendee and went to all the Free Beacon / Red State / Breitbart sites.

He's very, very bad at this. Portman is really rather good at this. Strickland is a lost loving cause.

You say Eisenhower, but not Theodore Roosevelt? He was as far left as it gets at the time. And when the Republicans were not progressive enough, he made the progressive party. Shame about how that turned out, but it was a good attempt.

I figure when people say "Republican" they're talking about the modern incarnation - Abe Lincoln would've been a Democrat in ideological terms, I believe, if we translate them to the modern day.

Governor Hogan of Maryland isn't completely awful, for a Republican. He's at least on record saying he has no plans to support Trump. I still kinda hate him, though.

I've never understood why we keep electing Republican governors, the state is otherwise deep blue. At least they're mostly pretty centrist.

I'm going to be amazed if Clinton doesn't reference Pence's unwillingness to defend Trump or acknowledge his statements, because it'd either mean she's showing a kindness/fuckup that she shouldn't, or because she's taking him to the toolshed so badly that she just doesn't feel the need to bring it up.

Lol, good job Donald:

quote:

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, speaking at a campaign rally in Reno, Nevada, told an audience of supporters that when in the state, one must correctly pronounce the state’s name,

Unfortunately, he insisted on using the incorrect pronunciation.

While discussing meth overdoses in Nevada, Trump segued into a spiel on the correct pronunciation of the state’s name, using a long A instead of a short A, which is not the preferred pronunciation.

“Meth overdoses in Nevada - Ne-VAH-da - and you know what I said? You know what I said? I said when I came out here, I said, ‘nobody says it the other way, it has to be Ne-VAH-da, right?”

The audience protested, but Trump apparently did not hear them.

“And if you don’t say it correctly - and it didn’t happen to me, but it happened to a friend of mine, he was killed.”

A shitty post? This calls for a dance of deduction.
During the primaries, one of the key arguments against voting for Bernie Sanders (at least with some) was that he would be too radical to get elected president.

In which voters will see him and be too scared to vote for him due to ads about Communism and they would flock to Trump instead.

After seeing Trump falter so hard during this general election, do people still think that would the case?
