Dexo posted:Wait did this election break Glenn Beck? Glenn Beck doesn't aim for the same audience as the rest of the right wing media. His style for a while now has been to be this gentler, more conciliatory, deeply religious conservative (a "compassionate conservative" if you will), with the idea that there are a lot of folks who lean Republican but are uncomfortable with bigotry, at least when it is obvious enough for these people to notice. Stereotypically, this demographic is described as "the Tea Partier's wife" but it's probably broader than that. He's pretty good at this shtick and knows exactly when to stray back into reality just enough to keep people who aren't completely oblivious from reaching dangerous levels of cognitive dissonance.

Likely a few pages back, but Strickland is a poo poo candidate. Portman outflanked him by getting a handful of unions to endorse him, and Strickland responded by disparaging the unions in question. He also had a town hall forum in Cleveland back in August where he said out loud what lots of people post in this thread, that Scalia's death was a good thing for labor due to Friedrich's becoming 4-4. That got recorded by an attendee and went to all the Free Beacon / Red State / Breitbart sites. He's very, very bad at this. Portman is really rather good at this. Strickland is a lost loving cause.

I figure when people say "Republican" they're talking about the modern incarnation - Abe Lincoln would've been a Democrat in ideological terms, I believe, if we translate them to the modern day.

Governor Hogan of Maryland isn't completely awful, for a Republican. He's at least on record saying he has no plans to support Trump. I still kinda hate him, though. I've never understood why we keep electing Republican governors, the state is otherwise deep blue. At least they're mostly pretty centrist.

Now the alt right Twitter brigade has "Free Ricky" trending at number 1 because they are a bunch of complete babies crying about their poor wittle hate speech being silenced. Ahahahanah

During the primaries, one of the key arguments against voting for Bernie Sanders (at least with some) was that he would be too radical to get elected president. In which voters will see him and be too scared to vote for him due to ads about Communism and they would flock to Trump instead. After seeing Trump falter so hard during this general election, do people still think that would the case?
