Last time around, a lot people were saying it was just a ploy to manage people's expectations and give Trump a low bar to clear. Do people still think that's what's going on? I mean, that Politico story doesn't is too detailed to be word of mouth from some defector; it looks like an intentional leak from the campaign. But that didn't exactly work last time, did it? I didn't think anyone in his organization was competent enough to pull something like that the first time so I have no reason to believe that THIS is different.

I wish these voter registration numbers came with 2012 stats to compare against, kind of hard to tell how much of this is Cheeto Benito fail and how much is just the usual Democrat ground game edge. EDIT: Also drat, that is 1/40 of the population of Florida. They grew the registered voter pool by 4 percent. Sensible Thursday fucked around with this message at 16:55 on Oct 7, 2016 |

This op-ed from the NYT brought up some thoughts about how massive Trumps $900 million losses are. A stadium proposal in Las Vegas includes the largest public subsidy of an NFL stadium ever at $750 million of $1.9 billion, with the rest coming from private sources. If you adjust Trump's losses for inflation, he nearly lost an entire NFL stadium worth of money in one year. Is an NFL stadium actually worth anything near that level of investment from the private parties involved, or Las Vegas itself? Seems to be we just get incredibly stupid when it comes to finding funding for sports. I'd be OK if the proposal was framed as a community investment for a fun recreational activity, but instead it's always framed as an economic investment. Which makes it take precedence over education, when it's actually less important to the economic development of the community than proper education is.

Can you imagine how awful it would be if the election ever ended? Like, what a mistake it would be if a day came when people actually voted. Happily this election will continue forever, and our entertainment with it.

The First Amendment would never allow it but I'm starting to support banning campaigning for office for further than a year out from the election date. Or literally any policy that would somehow put the election genie back in the bottle.

Josh Marshall has a good post about the normalization of anti-Semitism among the right. Key quote:quote:It's not GOP elites or the great mass of Republicans who are driving this change, the normalization of anti-Semitism in US political discourse. But the great mass of them (with some very honorable exceptions) are standing by and standing with the man and the movement that is doing these things.

Stadiums are a massive massive waste of taxpayer money, cities are always fleeced into paying for it under the justification of paying up front for future economic development that never materializes. It's basically just funneling public money into the pockets of team owners.

I have only gotten a few episodes into Luke Cage, but I take it that the writer of that article has watched none of it. The bad guys are a black gangster and a corrupt local black politician. Luke Cage is also portrayed somewhat conservative with another character jokingly calling him Fox News when he goes off on criminals.

Typically the get repuroposed where possible but to be frank their so big and few are proper domes that many simply lay dormant outside of 8 weekends a year especially in the winter. If soccer drew bigger crowds across the us it'd be less of an issue since they could be made dual use without the same issues that dual use baseball/football stadiums faced. Now basketball/hockey stadiums those can work for other smaller venues.
