The last time she texted me about the election it was of a gradually disappearing glass of wine while she watched the debate. My mom is cool. This week was cool.

Dr. Carson believes that people can change and be better," Carson aide Armstrong Williams told BuzzFeed News in an interview. "You know, these things happen. I'm sure somebody could find a video of Bill Clinton talking like this — are we gonna say Bill Clinton was the same person as president that he is today? Obviously not."

Armstrong continued, "People commit adultery. It happens. Ministers. Heads of state. Everyday people. People are human, they do human things. It's nothing unusual that somebody committed adultery on their spouse. Women do it. Men do it. Should we be shocked by it? No."

Also dropping out isn't quite the same as losing. Losing the presidency is a pretty good sign that more than half of the American people don't like you. It would be the biggest and most public loss of his life, and he won't be able to handle it.

So, I still think it's astronomically unlikely, but in the far-flung alternate universe where the GOP grows a spine and strongarms Trump off of the ticket, what the hell happens to the downballot? Am I crazy for assuming that pushing Trump out this late in the game will so completely obliterate Republican turnout that it would give Dems a reasonable shot at taking back the House?

The GOP is in extreme trouble downballot, because if Donald Trump is widely seen as a dead duck, a lot of Republicans will stay home.

Don't mention it unless it is tee balled by a drat relevant question. Use th debate to showcase your empathy and ability to connect with voters. You don't want to change the subject on them to make an attack unrelated to their question.

Scholars are some of the most pompous and pedantic people I've ever had the joy of meeting.
I hope at the debate Hillary Clinton demands Trump apologize, full stop, and then turns to the camera to ask what it says about politicians who claim to be aghast at his comments but still support him to lead the country. Twist that knife and don't stop.

Any memeber of the media who wants to see the GOP lose needs to contact assholes like Toomey and Rubio and ask if they still support Trump after these statements. If they waffle they need to be pushed on it and if they still support him over Clinton it needs to be plastered all over the news in their states.

Wasn't Juanita Brodderick the person who made a bunch of claims that even Paula Jones and others said was bullshit? IIRC Ken Starr didn't believe her either but given his 'work' at Baylor that might be a point in Brodderick's favor.

Then again, even if it's all true the idea of attacking Clinton via her husband's actions is insanity. Unless they have video of her defending and enabling Bill it's still going to just piss off people because it's still victim blaming to go after Hillary otherwise. "Hillary was cruel as hell to these women whom her husband cheated with" should get a "yeah no poo poo" reaction from most people.

NoEyedSquareGuy posted:

Fox News lady: "I think both campaigns right now are in crisis mode"

I could see some people in the Clinton camp being legit worried about Trump somehow being forced out and replaced with a less eldrich horror of a candidate. But it'd be Pence and if he tried his lying bullshit on Clinton she isn't going to let it slide like Kaine did. Pence/Kaisch could have lied enough to have a chance if it happened when the Khan meltdown occurred but even at this point that's a lot of damage to undo and if Trump didn't go quietly the Trumpstaffel could snap in all sorts of ways. Escept they can't force Trump off the ticket this late in the game and there's no way his ego would allow it unless he's bribed with tens of billions of dollars to do so.

The RNC is going to probably write Trump and the WH off as a lost cause unless he utterly destroys Hillary on Sunday and focus entirely on saving their Senate majority.
