The theory going around Reddit is that Jimmi Simpson will become Ed Harris and what we are seeing is not happening simultaneously. I don't know how true the first part could be - but I think playing with time is right up Nolan's alley, and that many of the scenes are from an earlier time in the park is quite likely.

Ed Harris is giving me vibes of The Judge in Blood Meridian. This show is really good, so far. I'm liking the speculation and mystery but don't mind an inevitably slow road to answers, because I genuinely enjoy seeing how stuff works generally within this crazy sci fi theme park world.

Oh I get to quote a great movie... Sheriff "Little Bill" Daggett: Look son, being a good shot, being quick with a pistol, that don't do no harm, but it don't mean much next to being cool-headed. A man who will keep his head and not get rattled under fire, like as not, he'll kill ya. It ain't so easy to shoot a man anyhow, especially if the son-of-a-bitch is shootin' back at you.

From what the host at the beginning said you can choose how much pain/hurt you can get so maybe there are some hardcore players who allow the hosts to knock them out, or even cut them. Dunno about the guns, but a realistic brawl is possible. And you can still probably fail plenty of adventures that are time sensitive / escort quests / mystery / etc.

Of course, it would mean that he has to have overridden the host/guest no kill policy I think this is the most likely answer. He's a Host, but not a regular Host, the exact details of which will, be explained at a later date. We need to see more from management or security than "let him be," first. He's obviously connected to management's "another purpose altogether," which is probably immortality-related. Something's obviously wrong with him, and he's also probably connected to The Incident, which probably has something to do with management's agenda. He's smart enough to not have them have to intervene for safety reasons with the other guests, and the fact that he disassembled a dude's face and head and took a trophy means that they're not watching him for whatever reason, either he's a super rich guy that paid to be left alone/ live there permanently, or the system recognizes him as a Guest because he is a "perfected" Host. Probably because he lacks the safety protocols of the other Hosts. I've read and watched a lot of fiction, not much completely surprises me anymore. In a world of "pay to play" gaming, how is it so difficult to understand that it could and would be translated into a place such as WestWorld? FFS how about translating "FastPass" into a world such as WestWorld. I think the most likely and most interesting possibility for Harris is exactly what he's presented as: a guest who's obsessed and discovering poo poo that may or may not be meant to be found. The slightly less interesting possibility is that he's a host who's been given guest privileges like invincibility and total free will to help the creators other than Ford find flaws and secrets in the system.

The game is designed for it, someone wrote the fiction to support the actions you take, does that make the writers culpable? Are games that take these actions into account written by sociopaths?

I think Bernard wants to make true AI, or is at least fascinated by the possibility of it. He is probably the one pushing Dolores and the others. Ford strikes me as more of an auteur than an engineer: I think his goal is to craft the AR equivalent of the perfect novel which will lend him his own, more traditional immortality in an era where humans "are finished." Doubling down that Ed Harris is bittervet gamer looking for the leet purps.

I'm not buying the Jimmi Simpson-Ed Harris theory. Ed Harris shoots up the farm in the same storyline that Jimmi Simpson interacts with, with Dolores and the dropped can. Anthony Hopkins wouldn't be regressive with the storylines and AI, and neither Dolores nor her dad reflect any signs of going wonky/developing sentience. The (well? tower?) thing is so cool. So the new storyline is having the hosts build a new town? I admit I haven't read the entire thread, at least not closely, but that's my theory and it provides an excellent vehicle for exploring whatever creativity the hosts may have. They might be programmed either with knowledge of how to plan and build structures, in which case we'd get to see whether or not they branch out from the absolute basics they possess, or they might be programmed with specific building plans and designs, in which case I fully expect that we'd see them deviate from the intended plan.

Watched it yesterday and it's visually and stylistically extremely impressive (HBO is delving into real art territory here), really looking forward to see where this is going. gently caress yeah HBO, crawl out of the tits& dragons mud and take back your throne. I hope they start to do more exposition about the outside world through the guests. A society that tolerates the abuse, brutalization and killing of thinking, living beings for fun is probably pretty deranged in many interesting ways. Also, love the parallels between human and host existential horror. Being born into a totally hosed up world, with no idea why you are here and what the whole point is, everything is full of mindless violence and pointless suffering. It's time for the host to discover fire, writing and civilization and go kill their gods.

One thing I really like about the opening credits is the movement from organic muscle and bone (manufactured but biological) to technology that helps organic muscle and bone with the gun, to technology that moves independently from and supplants muscle and bone with the player piano. I wonder if that suggests where the show is going thematically, with the hosts rivaling and replacing their human creators.
