Also this post should get us a new page.

We'll get more information once we talk with Levy. I have to say that I've played up Art's appreciation of the Orb for this moment, where she'll drop everything to get her precious back. ;)

There's also Kai-Lyss. Not saying he disproves the thesis at all, just listing him as a mage.

Which is pretty odd for someone who works with portals; that's normally a shortcut to crazy town.

I always rather liked the way the Exile/Avernum series portrayed high energy magic as this extremely dangerous field that drives everyone insane and attracts other-worldly entities.

When I saw those super heavy potions, I just assumed they were potions for giants, i.e. giant sized.

Seeing as they have multiple charges, that theory got proven~

No it makes perfect sense if you stop thinking of potions as being a flask-sized container and admitting the possibility you could be lugging around a Nebuchadnezzar-sized bottle.

Have to admit, I did not think potions would wind up that heavy. I guess the active ingredients were super-toxic and had to be diluted heavily?

Because it was 14 separate doses, I could have actually broken it down by giving a certain number of doses to other party members. Think of it as less a single large jug, and more like a bandoleer with a dozen flasks on it.

Update 41 – The Cult of the Sacred Object

“I WILL KILL THEM!” :ssj:

“This is most distressing. How did they get in?”

“MURDER!” :ssj:

“Get a hold of yourself, woman!”

:ohdear:

“Yes. Later. First, we need to get rid of the stuff we don't need, train up our skills some more, and then hit these thieves when they think they've gotten away with it.”

“Catch them by surprise?”

“That sounds like her plan.”

“You do realize this won't stop me from punishing them, right?”

“Not one bit. We just need to be at our best for this. You don't want to be at anything less when you get the Orb back, right?”

rusty spoon

“I think that'll be good enough.”

“Some items we should store here for now, like that Skill potion. And we should find that mage to identify things.”

“We got this at the Inn.”

“You wear it. You're the toughest of us by far, so this will help you even further.”

“Not as good as my Halberd.”

12/+5 vs 18/+3 I'll go with the bigger base damage.

“If we ever learn to mind duel, this will be important.”

* * *
Training Time!

Priest 6, then more Strength, Dex, Int and 5 more SP. As a note, Art is now at the highest level she's ever been, exceeding the endgames of E1 and E2.

Sass maxes out his strength, and gets Mage 4/Priest 4 in the process.

Bronwyn maxes out her Strength and Dexterity. Next will be her Edged Weapons, her Defense, Assassination and Luck.

More Intelligence, Priest 6, More Spell points and a point in Mage Lore. Why? ~reasons~.

Ni'aurrl gets more Intelligence, and higher Mage and Priest Spells, then tosses a random point into Spell Points.

More Spell Points, more Mage Spells and more Priest Spells. Nothing spectacular here.

:ssj:with their own guts

LEVY!

“Please don't kick down the door!”

“TOO LATE!”

“Explain, please!”

“Can I at least give you your reward for the Troglodytes and Giants?”

“Sass can have it.”

“Here you go, Magic necklace.”

“thanks!”

“So! Levy. Friend! What happened?”

“It was stolen.”

“Oh, I heard about that. Having something as important as the Orb being stolen under your watch can't be good for you.”

“There was an explosion in the middle of the night. We went to the Orb's vault, and it was ravaged an empty. There was no way anyone could have snuck in. We think the thieves teleported in.”

Teleporting into a sealed chamber, one that has an object as powerful as the Orb of Thralni? The attackers must have been brilliant, or mad.”

“It's the only way they could have entered. Fortunately, Seles, Exile's best teleportation expert, came here to investigate, and has agreed that is what most likely happened. She said that anyone interested in tracking the thieves should go and see her.”

“Thanks Levy!”

“That was remarkable restrained of you.”

“Yeah, that door was still in one piece.”

“He'll get a new door while repairing the damages. Besides, I have something far more interesting in mind for him later.”

* * *

“Ah good, Amaximander sent word you would be coming to me.”

“So, what, we still need permission to go do this?”

So, while this quest is active, you can't go back to the Tower of the Magi. Which meant that I had to run to Krizsan to dump off my extra loot.

“Anything you can tell us about the thieves?”

“I don't know who stole it, or why, but I do know where they went. You see, any teleportation up here affects the portal, and I can cast spells to tell who blipped where and adjust this portal to compensate. Thus, I can help you find the thieves.”

“What about our Amulet?”

“Because the arrival point is fixed to Fort Emergence, I can preemptively adjust the portal's event horizon for that.”

“Curious. I presume you can get a relative direction by observing the ripples in the event horizon of the Einstein-Rosen bridge, you can determine a direction of origin?”

“Yes. The use of a Rindler co-ordinate set in Minkowski space can give me an aggregate distance based on the distance between stressor waves.”

“Very elegant.”

“And this means you can teleport us there?”

“Yes. I can realigned this portal with the destination location of the escape used by the thieves. It appears they used a Word of Recall to leave, and I was able to track that location. However, you'll have to find your own way back. Your amulet won't work underground.”

“They came here, so we'll just use the same way to get back!”

“Sounds like this could go horribly, horribly wrong in so many ways.”

“And everything else we've done can't?”

“Don't worry! Mommy's coming!”

“Well, we're alive. But where are we?”

“Looks like a camp to the east.”

] “Art's already going over there.”

“GIVE ME THE ORB, AND I WON'T HURT YOU MORE!”

“Never!”

“Amazing!”

“Yes, I heard there was a problem in the old version of the Kill Spell that made it half-as powerful as it should have been.”

“Or is the new version twice as good?”

“Does it matter?”

“Not really, no.”

“No one here. Bronwyn, check the boxes, see if the Orb's in them.”

“Nope. Not even dice.”

“Oh good, you're here.”

“Who are you?”

“Huh. So this is the group you were infiltrating?”

“Yes. I'm sorry, I couldn't do anything about the raid.”

“Dmurr, right?”

“Who are these people?”

“They call themselves the Cult of the Sacred Object. I won't waste your time explaining what they think. You'll find their literature soon enough.”

“Neat. Where do I find them?”

“Swing south around the lake until you get to the docks. Then boat back north.”

“Thanks. What are you going to do?”

“Hold the location here for returning patrols, and delay them from chasing you as long as I can.”

“You sure you don't want to come with us and extract?”

“No, I can do more damage in the long run by staying behind.”

“Thanks.”

“So, another member of Unspecified Services. Could have been more helpful.”

“Or they told us all they knew already.”

“I trust Dmurr. She's good.”

“And that's the end of that doubt. So, where to?”

“Circling around the lake?”

“What lake?”

“This one.”

“And that must be where we need the boat to reach.”

“I can detect some energy that corresponds to a portal from that fortification. I think that's our way out.”

“My Orb! NOW!”

“Never!”

“This makes no sense.”

I'm high enough level that the only enemies that are willing to fight me are the fixed encounters.

“Well, let's keep walking then.”

“Stop her! She will ruin everything!”

“Oh, I love it when my reputation precedes me.”

Hrm, Mage 7, and 195 Spell Points. Eh, what's the worst he could do?

Fair enough. It's not like I'm getting massive mileage out of Kill myself.

“This looks like the docks.”

“Just dark thanks to the lack of lichen.”

:catholic: “Well, it looks like we caught a patrol here at home. Shall we introduce ourselves?”

“Please?!?”

“Hello! My name is Art. Tell me where the Orb of Thalni is, or hand it over, and I'll let you all live.”

“Intruders! Kill them!”

“And people wonder why I don't go for Diplomacy all that often.”

Finally cast Scry on one of these guys.

“That's not fair!”

What happened here was that Ni'aurrl cast Firestorm at the lower explosion point, killing the captain, and hoping to harm some of the enemies inside the baracks. However, the explosion didn't go through the window, and the closed door prevented the Archer from taking any damage at all.

“Hi!”

Next step up from Champions. Dervishes are the end of this particular combat line.

“Cooperate, and you will be rewarded!”

“Die!”

:sigh:

“That's the last of them.”

“Let's see if they left anything of use.”

“Curious book.”

“Worst. Cult. Ever.”

Please tell me I'm not the only one who reads “DILUTE! DILUTE!” in Dalek?

“Nothing else around. Let's see what we have here.”

“So much for payday.”

“And now, boats!”

“I hate you all.”

“I felt that you stole my line for some reason.”

Waterfalls are far less common in Exile 3, if only because navigable bodies of water are far less common. Anyways, going over a waterfall in a boat can cause loss of food. Which doesn't really matter to us.

“We don't need to go back, we don't have to go down that!”

“Can't leave to the south either. It would take a lot of time to pick our way through or over those rocks.”

“And we can't go north either.”

“Time to go destroy a cult then. Away!”

“I am also not dumb enough to go charging straight into a defensive position like this. Let's go around via boat.”

“Don't worry, sweetie! Mommy's almost here!”

“Stop them! Stop the intruders!”

“Wait! It's her! The Possessor!”

“I haven't heard that one before. I don't like it.”

“What's all this racket?”

“We're the heroes!”

“ohdear”

“More in the hall outside.”

:science:

“Looks like all the interesting stuff is on the other side of the complex.”

“There's interesting stuff right here!”

:flame:

And I love how AoE can affect tiles you can't see. Assuming there's line of sight to the epicentre of the effect!

“Hrm, this is almost too easy. I wonder if we just caught them on a bad day?”

“Oh, this is more like it.”

“Let's start on the right.”

“Would it kill them to clean up? I mean seriously, you can tell the serious cults from the idiots by these sorts of standards!”

“I meant ... no. Never mind. Let's take the last door to the north now.”

“Mundane?”

“THIS IS JUNK!”

“Not the Graymold though.”

“Did someone start cultivating the damned stuff and not tell me?!?”

So, while looting random drawers, I came across this:

Can someone tell me why, in a dungeon full of enemies, that the game would still, seriously, note that some items are “Not Yours” and that stealing them is bad?

“And this is why you need to be prepared to be attacked from multiple sides. Those 'defenders' of the front door never stood a chance.”

“Also, just generic supplies in case someone does attack, and they need more arrows.”

I just wanted to point out that there are two enemies in this screenshot. They're just on the beds, so the game has them drawn as sleeping. Which makes it hilarious where they appear in full arms and armor in a moment.

Like that!

And a rare double level-up!

“Hrm, there's something interesting in this box...”

“Magical.”

“The book on the pedestal is the same as the one in the docks, sadly.”

“But the books on the shelves are different.”

“I know that one. The Empire made a weapon called the 'Nethersword' that was made of some strange metal that caused those around it to slowly die from disease. It was meant as a trap of some sort.”

“What did you do with it?”

“... uh ... tossed it into an abyssal gorge, I think? Or did we just leave it in the lava the Ifrit were using to make other weapons? I forget. It's gone though.”

“Let's go to the other side now!”

“I agree! Leave no survivors!”

“Well, that makes popping the lock easy.”

“Long, defensive corridor. Probably full of traps.”

“If this is anything like the chambers on the other side, I'm going to be sick.”

“I can cast Cure Disease!”

“Wrong kind of sick.”

“Weird. I would have had something here, but there's nothing.”

“Oh great.”

“I recognize this.”

“So do I. It's a very old cleansing ritual.”

“I feel less clean.”

“It's one of those things meant to affect the spirit, not the body.”

“Let's just get this over with.”

“It worked. Now, we just need to do this twice more for the other two pools.”

“I'm not certain even Quickfire will cleanse this.”

“What do we have here?”

“MOMMY'S HERE!”

“Where are you?”

“Huh. I wonder if they even knew it had been lost on the surface?”

“Where are you?”

“I see no reason to leave anything behind.”

“Don't even open that. It's the poison metal.”

A fixed bar of Uranium. I wonder if the case is lead lined?

Art said don't open it!

“I'M HERE!”

“Oh, how mommy missed you. Now, she's never going to let you go. Ever.”

“Now that we have what we came for, why don't we check out the last two cases?”

“Never heard of it.”

“That's bad news.”

“And why are you rational again?”

“I'm always rational. Anyway, these people were able to raid Fort Emergence. And they wanted Demonslayer. Except that blade is currently in the possession of Prince Karmas, and this means they were going to try and attack him on his trip into Upper Exile.”

“Oh. That could have gone rather badly.”

“But the Cult didn't kill anyone on their way to the Orb.”

“Irrelevant. The Orb's protections were static, so they could plan for that. But to steal Demonslayer from a living person, and the one set to replace Micah? That would draw a response that would make Art's look positively tame.”

“I have to agree. But we have what we came for, we can leave now. Assuming we have an idea?

“Open area in the last quarter we haven't explored. We still haven't found their teleporter, and that's most likely the best place for it.”

“It's quiet.”

“Either they're withdrawing to recover, or setting up an ambush.”

“Regardless, we should help ourselves first.”

“Assuming there's anything here other than an expired poison?”

“What's a will?”

“I don't know what, but I know where there is one, there is usually also a way.”

“And that's stupid. As in, how is it even active?”

“We should look around first. It may be in standby mode, and thus not safe to travel through.”

“Sombre.”

“Very much so.”

“Well, that's enough commiserating. Let's leave.”

“Right behind you!”

“Yes, this should do nicely. If they haven't messed with anything, we should get back to Fort Emergence.”

“I'm surprised this hasn't imploded yet.”

“Don't worry baby, we're almost safe.”

“Wait. This is supposed to stop us?”

“Yes!”

“He's almost a threat.”

“All done.”

“Never mind. Let's power this thing back up.”

“Stabilized. They didn't change anything else, thankfully.”

Update 042 – Upper Exile, Erika's Tower, and the Islands of South-Western Valorim

Today's update is just me running around doing things now that I have the Orb of Thralni.

“Where are we?”

“Not dead, thankfully.”

“So, uh, what would have happened had we materialized inside rock?”

“We would have died instantly, but in that instant we would have felt excruciating pain like nothing else.”

:science:

“We're back here?”

“Well, as that's the case, it should be easy to get out.”

I am honestly surprised that this is still considered a populated dungeon.

“Now what?”

“Now we prove that the Orb should be used, by using it!”

“How about we make sure all the paperwork is in order first?”

“You're no fun!”

“Perhaps heading back to the Tower first? If the pattern holds, we still need to collect a reward from the Magi down there for our actions on the surface.”

“But first, I have to got rub this in Levy's face!”

“And get his face all over the Orb?”

“... Good point.”

“Anaximander! I'm back!”

“That was quick. I assume Dmurr is alive?”

“She was the last I saw of her. She was going to try and collect the survivors.”

“You left survivors?”

“We're as surprised as you.”

“Levy! Guess what! I've got my Orb back!”

“All I heard was 'It is safer in her hands'.”

“Back to the Tower! I can't wait to brag to Peregrine!”

* * *

“Come on!”

“Oh, Art? Peregrie had to head out for a meeting. He said he would be back in a couple weeks.”

“DAMMIT!”

“Also, Solberg has passed your party off to X. He's in the library.”

“X!”

“Thanks.”

“And why are we here?”

“Because we can. And so people can get more practice with Dispel Barrier.”

“Like that.”

“One more to go.”

:ssj: “LIIINNNNNDDDDDAAAAAAAA!”

“So, this is where the Triad meets. I wonder if they'll notice if someone sits in one of those chairs...”

“Guess they would notice, and would mind.”

“Well, let's go see X then, and get your guy's reward.”

“Where did I put it?”

YOU!

“Yes? I am called Linda.”

“Sass! Bronwyn! Help hold Art down!”

“Hello. What do you do?”

She looks down, and is silent for a while. Then she looks up at you. “I do research.”

Research? Into what?”

“Wow, she's strong!”

“That's not strength, that's leverage!”

“Let me go! Just one punch!”

She begins to speak in an odd sing-song voice. “That is the job of a mage. Magic is a huge, unexplored forest, and there is much of it that is still virgin.”

“That is certainly an interesting way to describe magic.”

“Yes. I explore many of the bolder, more fascinating areas.”

Areas? Such as?”

She looks agitated. “I study various creatures. I prefer not to say their names.”

“Adze-Haakai!”

She gets a blank look on her face. “I don't know.”

“And there she goes, wandering off again. You guys can let Art up now.”

“Thanks. She's tough for an old woman.”

“...”

“Ah, the true library of the Tower. Such books!”

“Seems dusty.”

“Hello, archmagus. We have completed another quest, and have been sent to you for our reward.”

“I think we'll skip the former, but the latter has certain implications...”

“Power Overwhelming!”

“That too. And while were here, let's pick up some more advanced priest spells.”

“Oh 6th Circle spells. Soon, I will be able to drop Divine Thud, and go Avatar on my foes.”

* * *

“Now what?”

“Now, we have the Orb. Let's go exploring.”

The Orb of Thralni is the last major thing we need to explore the whole of Valorim and Upper Exile. I'll be doing a bit of cleanup over the next couple updates now that we can access places that require the Orb.

“Nothing over here.”

“That flying feels like I'm standing on sand.”

“Just a factor in the magic.”

“That's just out of reach, I think. We should be able to get down there using a boat.”

“You're not going to cross here, are you?”

“Especially when it seems like there's a small passage we could have used to get here instead.”

“Bah, we're flying!”

“And now we're rowing!”

“We go north here.”

When I get around to identifying it, it's a Magic Buckler, a 0 Encumbrance shield that will probably wind up on Matthias or Ni'aurrl.

“That's a lot of monsters.”

“Eh, we can take 'em.”

“Time to visit Erika!”

“This is entirely the wrong direction! We're north west of New Formello

“Eh, I'll get there eventually.”

“ow.”

“We can go that way!”

:barf: “This was a mistake.”

“Yeah, but not for the reasons you think.”

“What's this?”

“oooh!”

“This could be bad.”

“There's one of them.” :geno:

“So, where next?”

“East!”

“North!”

“Skip.”

“You know, we never went this way when we first talked to Erika. Perhaps we should check to see if there are any problems this way first?”

“I'd rather not, but I know we will anyways.”

“Yay!”

“And not even attempts to dissuade us from getting closer.”

Ogres aren't a challenge.

“That's curious. Did they remove everything of value because we were approaching, or because of some other reason?”

“Why are there Sliths here? And why are they violent?”

“And again!”

“This was too methodical for a quick evacuation.”

“And I'm trying to figure out why they're cooperating like this.”

“Target rich environment. And even I'm having troubles caring at this point.”

“And that looks like the last of them.”

“Whelp, there goes my lethargy. This was totally justified!”

“Ewww....”

“Well, waiting for the traps to be sprung now...”

“There they are!”

“Actually a potential problem. Especially with that Vampire in the back.”

“Or we could cast Firestorm and Flame Strike multiple times, and then let the melee brawlers take care of the details?”

“I like that plan.”

Another battle where I completely outmatch the opposition

“Time to visit Erika!”

“Why are we doing this again?”

“Because she can?”

“Except, let's go around back.”

“I guess even Erika needs to throw out the garbage every once in a while.”

“Well, Goos aren't dangerous.”

“Before or after they start splitting?”

“On the other hand, Gorgons could be a problem.”

“Emphasis on the 'could'.”

“Well, hopefully this wand is worth something.”

“Stupid lock!”

“And who makes their locks out of Electrum?”

“Erika does.”

“Hey, Red!”

“What?”

“Gonna poke my nose into things.”

“Don't let it get bitten off.”

“Where she does her metalworking.”

“Look at all these materials!”

For once, not complaining about random Greymold – if anyone is going to have some lying around like this, it'll be Erika.

“Empty room.”

“Not quite. Looks like a Brazier in the corner.”

“That's not good.”

“Run!”

“Safe!”

“Except for some scorched fur.”

“I can see a tight passage through these pillars.”

From the door, the path that I found was: W, W, SW, NW, SW, NW, SW, S, S, SE. Then nothing. Can someone fill me in if I missed something?

“What does this do?”

“Fires fireballs at whatever is on the rune apparently.”

I'm just going to reload after that. Also, couldn't find a way into that little room in the corner.

“Nothing important. Let's go see what she's keeping in the cages.”

“Ruby Skeletons.”

“Oh, one of those.”

“I thought they were all dead!”

“Not dead enough it seems.”

“And I don't see anything in the last cage.”

“Time to go to the other side!”

“Huh. This lock is almost too easy.”

“And that's why. Teleporter trap.”

“And we can't leave the room because it's in the way. Hrm...”

“Found the exit!”

“Rings of lava.”

“Firewalk.”

“And the exit is blocked.”

“Found the way out!”

“Except we're outside now.”

“At least we know we can skip the next room. More quickfire?”

“This one, we skip.”

“HORSE!”

“And we're leaving.”

:flame: “Boring.”

“This isn't a trap at all.”

“No, because this is all a trap, and we're not touching this stuff.”

Random Basilisk Encounter posted:

“And because we lack the key, we cannot reach her inner sanctum.”

“You done?”

“Yep! See you later!”

So, I went and ID'd things.

From Erika's trash. Sold.

Still haven't decided who gets this.

“Let's check out this hidden passage. It may just be a source of extra magma, but you never know.”

“This is really easy.”

“How would anyone see is take this stuff? Anyway, I'm going to leave it here. No sense in robbing Fort Emergence.”

“Let's check out some islands!”

“Already did this one. It's where I got the Ravage Knife.”

“Nothing out here.”

“And here we are, on the far western shore of Krizsan. Why are we out here again?”

“This!”

“I meant that!”

“Hello?”

“Let me heal all that up...”

“Well, it's obvious he wants his privacy.”

I don't think there's any land further west than this island – and the only reward for reaching it at this point is to have everyone hit with two levels of disease.

And the game will tell you that you can't fly over the ocean if you get too close to the edge of the world map.

* * *

“I hear something from across the river.”

“Like the other stone circles?”

“Yeah.”

“There it is.”

Everyone whose Dex was below 20 has it raised by one point. 20 will not improve to 21, sadly. And that's the Krizsan Circle. Just have two more to locate.

“What do you know, we could have gotten here through this pass from the north, instead of relying on the Orb.”

“Don't you dare insult my baby!”

“Another island, this time to the west of the port to port Townsend.”

“You forgot it's name, didn't you?”

:sigh: “Yes.”

“What is that?”

“We can probably sell all this for a tidy sum.”

You can loot the shipwreck as many times as you want. Though, you're getting more than just Iron Bars...

Some of them are randomly Silver bars as well! Methinks this was a smugglers ship. And if you wanted to, you could keep going back and forth until you had all the money you could ever want.

* * *

“And now we're on the south coast of the Isle of Bigail's spur.”

“I can barely see the land over there.”

“This is delightfully quiet.”

“Which means it's probably home to hordes of nasties.”

“Probably right.”

“Except there's nothing out here.”

“That feels ... wrong.”

* * *

“And now we are nor'west of Sharimik, about to go island hopping.”

“No, that's too far away to hop properly.”

“Hrm... best direction is...”

“Found you!”

“Same style as the Ravage Knife.”

“No traps. Taking it.”

Just to give you an idea...

And that's it for this update. Next time, we go back to Lorelei, and explore a lot more. So, voting time! Do I go:
  • A: North from Lorelei, up towards the central lake on the continent, with a whole bunch of towns?
  • B: East from Lorelei, toward the coast, then south? There's at least two towns that way, and a whole bunch of unexplored places to connect down to the Tomb of Vahkos.
  • C: West from Lorelei, toward the isle of Bigail, and regions northward of that? Who knows what's out there!

Okay, I had no idea that you could land on those tiny oval-shaped islands with the Orb/flight. I always thought you would crash and die again. Need to try that out on my next playthrough.

Also, Uranium DOES sell for quite a bit of cash. But because of its disease property, it's really only worth taking some if you know a shop is nearby.

Finally, my vote is for either B) or C). Either one gets you into exploring backwater-redneck territory, and both have some optional (challenging) dungeons that you should be able to take on now. North would put you back into plot mode.

I'll vote for B, that'll fill in a whole in our map and finish off that section for awhile.

You get into the room you couldn't access in Erica's tower from outside. I believe you go through a secret passage on the west section of the trash pit. The obvious trap room has some pretty good loot in the chests if I'm remembering correctly and it just spawns 2 black shades and a demon inside the pillars - only a threat if you take the stuff right after beating the slimes. Pretty sure there's a magic gauntlet inside the quickfire square inside the barriers too.

I knew I remembered a slith spear in upper exile.

There's a secret passage on the left side of the lava at the entrance to fort emergence as well.

And now we've seen all 4 steps to getting a huge head up at the start of the game. At creation, get one character to mage 7 and spend 20 points in mage lore over the party. Take all the points out of HP and put a bunch into strength. Then at the start, kill the ice pudding. Go to New Cotra (i think?) and collect the bounty, use that money to buy the boat and sail to the back of gharik (sp) and get major blessing. With that, you can beat all four waves of ogres/slith/undead, and by then you should have several levels which because of all the points in strength will have given you a bunch of hp.

Go West, young man!

The color balance in your updates this time around is off; you seem to be missing the blue channel almost entirely. Probably want to fix that before you take any more screenshots.

GodFish's memory jives with my own; looting Erika can get you some nice stuff and she doesn't even mind! Also, for the pillar maze room, I think if you search the pillars (by looking at them) at the end of the passage you found, one of them has a lever or switch or something. Might be related to the empty room just north of that room.

Option B.

As for the pillar room, try searching the actual pillars - I think the one at the end has either a switch or item hidden inside it.

Erm... nope. Everything looks as it should, both on the computer I play the game on, and the one I use to process the updates.

I'll check out Erika's Tower again in the future. Thanks guys!

Finally got through the Exile 2 lp and this.
Love Art and her sweet spherical child. Half expected you to try clearing out that one Chitrach nest by New Formello during that last update, though.
Also on that topic, would the Chitrach nest count as a possible plague in Exile? Or maybe a practice one, since it's only affecting one town. The magic destruction cover up of the possible work area in the tunnels and the bugs suddenly popping up far from where they normally are seem like good points for the theory.

Gonna vote B for now, since you mentioned super spear was west and also may have been too hard to get at pre-giant fortress levels, so if that's still the case even after your newest training, then rounding out the map before you go that way feels like it ought to do it.

MagusofStars
Mar 31, 2012

The Chitrachs may be hassling a town, but the difference is that they're natural and already existed. The plagues we've seen are all totally created by magic - slimes and giant roaches didn't exist and the troglodyte/giants were extinct.

And harmless, as I recall. That cultist that got killed while using it must have been doing something wrong. Either that or she used up the last charge of "maliciously and capriciously kill whoever just activated me".

For all the time I sank into this game as a kid, I could not figure out if there was in fact a way to explore Erika's inner sanctum. I recall seeing quite a lot of interesting stuff in there and have to wonder if it's all just for show in case someone magic maps the tower.. is there a way to get in that I have missed?

You can get past the electrum lock, but I have no idea how you do it legitimately since I used the editor when I was a kid.

Oh I see! This must be the Bad Opinion Zone!
I dunno if this is spoilers but each of the main 'suspects' for the plagues have an inaccessible area in their main maps to make the player wonder if they did it. I think one of them, if you cheat your way in, actually has a sign or something that says Red Herring.

I don't think you can. I tried using the editor to give myself the electrum key and it doesn't open her locks.

I just spent the past week archive-binging your trilogy of LPs. I played the heck out of these games back in high school, and it's a delight to revisit them. Especially with characters with some personality.

In the meanwhile, I say go east and get in some exploring.

The voting is done, my friend, and I have about 400 images to process into the next update or three. However, after my near two-week binge, I burned myself out on updates, and everytime I open up the files, my motivation goes away. Give me a little time to recover, then I'll be back. I'm not about to quit after doing so much work.

Ehhh, don't fall into the sunk cost fallacy. If LPing isn't bringing you any joy, give it up. Maybe the joy will return but as it, life is too full of us having to engage in things we don't like to survive without doing them in our spare time also.

There's a difference between "I need a break" and "I need to quit". I'm sure berryjon will return only when he's ready to return, but I also have confidence that he's not going to give up that easily. The occasional binge/bust cycle won't stop him.

Well, the last time I took a break, I kinda did the four Homeworld games to help restore my energy. So there's always that... ;)

Given how far you've come in this long and epic trilogy, jon, I hope that you don't give up. You need to do what you need to do, but I will miss this if you take a hiatus (especially now that TMAs LP is done) and I will be very sad if you call it off. I hope that you can find the inspiration that you need to see it through.
