Also is that bike goon approved or in some way stupid and/or a death sentence? The torque will be a big surprise, but the RBW lets you back that right off (start in Rain mode and it lops 20% off the power across the rev range and slackens the throttle response). It's quite a high seat for a naked, and quite top-heavy at low speeds, so that'll also be a big jump for you to make. Once you get over that it's a very forgiving bike, and one that put up with 6 years of London commuting with only occasional utter, utter fiascos. It's not *amazingly* Italian but does have a couple of vices. Older (pre 2010MY) bikes have weak clutch springs that can fail and make the clutch slip, so if you're looking at an older one make sure the PO has had them replaced. The MAP sensors fail a lot, and like to fail in a way that makes the ECU think every single component has broken - if you don't have access to a mechanic who knows of Aprilia and their wily ways they can end up spending thousands trying to track a problem in a £30 component. Best mod is a Fat Duc O2 emulator - ten seconds to fit and it totally smooths out the slightly snatch low-speed throttle response.

I'm not really sure where to post this question, but here we go anyways. Due to a few different things, I'm looking to sell my R1200GS. It's a 2005 and has pretty low miles (37k), is in good shape with some new tires, nice panniers, and no physical or mechanical issues to note. How can I go about finding the value of this thing? Are the NADA/KBB numbers a fair place to start?

I need some advice and I decided to stop mucking up the 'good ads in your area' thread. I've ridden a bunch of UJMs in my youth and had a Ninjette for a couple of years. I'm looking for a dualsport under $3k (really I was looking for a UJM/'standard' that's not more than 2 decades old, but I can't find anything reasonable on craigslist). I want something light and upright. Lower is better, my inseam is 29-30". Mostly for my 2.5 mile commute, to ride around town, take some day trips, and trails mayyybe. Highway riding is not the most important, but it'd be nice if I'm not getting tossed around too much. Can I just post a bunch of craigslist bikes and someone can tell me if they are reasonable? I don't expect anyone to go through the links but I put them there just in case. Particularly with the older models where I won't know if there's anything to watch out for. For the suzukis at least, nothing under the DRZ400s are going to be very confidence inspiring at highway speeds. The DRZ400 is no dragster but it can at least safely maneuver traffic at speed on the highway. I also don't like either of those DRZ400s. The cheap one looks like an E model with no plates (hassle) and also does not have inverted forks or anything (not a supermoto). The more expensive one has a lot of miles but seems to be a fully converted S model which is pretty much the same as the SM. the forks make the biggest difference and if you're not doing a lot of off road riding they are pretty worthwhile (17s also reduce the overall height of the bike.) pretty sure my SM with dirt wheels on is a seat height of like 37 inches vs ~34/35 with the 17s so full dual sport trim is probably not what you want if you're not comfortable leaning the bike on one foot at stops also both those dr650s look kinda lovely but im down on those anyway

The $2000 DR650 would be interesting with more and better pics. The rest are either getting long in the tooth, kinda ratty, or not plated and the KLRs are nowhere near lightweight like you want. Do you happen to live near/in Chico? I could let you sit on my supermoto DRZ if you'd like. I'm a 29" inseam as well and don't have any trouble. The market around here is pretty crappy, all I seem to see on CL is bikes that are nasty and the owners want what a clean bike would fetch. Edit: If you were going to ignore highway performance, then I'd get that DR200. It fits all of your criteria and seems to be the cleanest choice.

I already messaged the guy with the DR200 since it looked so clean but haven't heard back yet. He's in Yuba, a ride up the 70 shouldn't be too bad, I don't think. It will be nigh impossible to resist the sweet siren call of bike over not-bike so bear that in mind in your search your end result will be better if you figure out what you want and then wait for that rather than compromising because you desperately need a bike now. On that note, you might consider ease of resale in your criteria. And then buy a tw200.

I was looking at this 08 GS500: https://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/mcy/5833515681.html The seller mentioned that there is a leak coming from the fuel line. I was thinking that it would probably be the float or jet? Add says that the carbs were rebuilt so I figure that at worst someone hosed up and forgot to replace or adjust the float that is now causing the leak. Or maybe I'm being dumb even considering this bike.

Personally I would buy it because that's a good price on a good bike, as long as you're prepared to tinker with it. It is probably leaking from the float bowl or a t-junction and just appears to be coming from a fuel line. You should also note that this appears to be a GS500F (the faired version) that has been converted to naked. It was likely crashed.

What concerns me about that bike (besides the registration stuff) is that it's not a true SM, it's been converted. Will it function? Yes, but why was all that stuff replaced? An S model is supposed to be pretty ok with 17s on it. Also, it's not a dual sport and adding dirt wheels/tires is a $1k proposition. Why is the guy gonna charge YOU $300 to go to DMV and deal with the registration? From what I've read, 19k is getting up there for DRZs, it might be stator/head refresh time for that bike. For comparison, I bought my SM in Paradise for $3200 with 7k miles on it. While this is kind of low for the SM market, you could do better than that bike. I agree with builds character, I think you need to solidify exactly what you want and then wait until it shows up. It's difficult, but it's the best way to do things.

Thoughts on Triumph Sprints welcome... I'm looking at 2 of them tomorrow. 2003, 955i motor, 8800 miles, bags, center stand. Dealer trade in, so no history but appears all stock. Asking $3500, and can probably get it for $3000. Only specific issue I know of that's important is that the nose of the crank might decide to snap off since that was apparently a problem with the 955i in the 2002 and *maybe* 2003 models. 2008, 1050i motor, 8200 miles, bags, Two Bros exhaust, Healtech gear indicator, Pazzos, ABS. Lowsided once, driveway dropped once, and knocked over in the street. Fairings and mirrors replaced, crash sliders installed after second drop, so the last one only scratched the sliders and one of the bags. All dealer service, private sale. Asking $4500, might get it for less. Is the crank problem just overblown? Is ABS worth $1500 more on a bike that's been dropped a couple times? Rational thinking says go with the 2008 (newer and ABS), but I just don't like that it's been dropped. I already dealt with a multiple tip-over and it's maddening when everything is off by 1/4". Just buy whichever one fits better?
