Co-opting hip-hop like Elvis did with rock-and-roll is not the worst thing white people did. He was also the biggest closeted gay/bi star along with Little Richard. You might say it was a little misguided if it was purely a money grab but the drive to be a celeb using someone else's style is at least understandable. Especially back in the day when managers ruled the music world.
