My brother, who is American and 61 years old, still gets a kick out of Leave it to Beaver reruns in the morning while having breakfast before work. He was a really little boy when it started running.

No one in Britain grew up with this show, so if matey is English, why on earth is he prattling on about a 55+ year old American sitcom that is not part of any UK childhood or cultural meme.

I know, I'm being Canute here, trying to stop the tide, but this strip, modern Nancy, and the Tor Johnson baby from Rose is Rose are trainwrecks I can't stop looking at.

Nope. Partners (in the nonromantic sense) and friends, but their relationship has always been platonic.

(Which is one reason I'm glad there has never been any modern attempt to revive Modesty -- I don't think Hollywood could resist turning them into a "will they or won't they" couple.)
