emminou posted:I thought all the new posts in the thread might have been about Helen Kelly's death, but no. Can she still win NZer of the year? God knows she deserves so much more recognition and respect than she got in life. I'm so so sad about this, even tough I knew it was coming e: it made me extra sad to see, two headlines down from this one in stuff, a story flinging poo poo at the junior doctors strike. gently caress everything double edit: and a friend of mine in Labour just told me that they were lining her up to replace Trevor Mallard in Hutt South, but then she got sick. So she would've been in Parliament next year, but instead Labour are probably going to go to lost the seat to Chris Bishop. It seems like its been a while since *anything* published on Cameron Slaters blog has made the news or he has been of any significance. Which is pretty great. If someone could give me an update on the basic assets (lack of) and legal cases regarding him that might be interesting.

In New Zealand's foremost case of "wasp landing on a nettle", Colin Craig is currently seeking $15,000 in damages from Slater over the publication of his creepy love poetry. That's the only ongoing legal stuff I know of, though Slater has been in financial trouble for a long time - WhaleOil isn't bringing in clicks any more and it was his primary income stream.

I thought Kim Dotcom had showed that the vast majority of clicks on Whale Oil were bots that Slater was using to drive himself up in search rankings or something.

The trains are now remarkably good, as long as you want to travel to and from one of the six places they stop.

In today's Herald, we reach new heights of integrity and self awareness as a man who threw his partner down the stairs and broke her back is paid to opine on whether a sports man who had consensual sex should be allowed to sports.

The speed of population increase in New Zealand is demonstrably the cause of some current pretty loving serious issues. There isn't enough accommodation, which is directly causing extreme child poverty AND loving the economy. Immigration is good and immigration is bad are equally retarded viewpoints. The context of it's net effect is what actually matters, and at this particular point in time it's a net negative. This is absolutely solvable in a relatively short period. Winston style dog whistling and the desperate fear of being called an -ist make this pretty impossible to discuss genuinely.

Lack of housing and poor wages would still be problems without any immigration, because we've got a government that doesn't want to build houses or have any employment protections.
