When you have a match that has several years of history, past frustrations of the younger champion, and what will be considered as one of the greatest rivalries in the history of wrestling thrown together and ending in a match done so well and with the ending that we've waited all those years to see, it's hard to put anything else over it. Plus it followed Nakamura vs AJ, which followed Shibata vs Ishii, both of which were spectacular matches that would pretty much be match of the night on any other day.

Even discounting the better storytelling of matches and whatnot, people lose their mind when the WWE has a piledriver (i.e. punk vs cena) or an apron spot and Okada v Marufuji had a piledriver on the apron. It's a different audience for the different matches. The average NJPW fan is not the average WWE fan, and a match catering to the former might not strike a chord with the latter. I'm much closer to an average WWE fan, and have watched NJPW shows and not given two shits about matches billed as instant classics.

Okada/Marufuji is on my short list for my favorite match this year though. Even better than their G1 encounter and the interpromotional vibe made it feel like a big deal.
