The Panic Room patch is live. Changelog looks promising, though with the enemy health being boosted 600-900% I'm not sure if that headshot multiplier boost is enough. Unless it really amounts to +75% damage as I'm reading it:
Note that when I check the Goliath's damage fall off stats, it's still showing up as 10-30m when every other shotgun in the game starts its falloff at 40m, so who knows how much of this list is legit. Daryl Surat fucked around with this message at 21:40 on Oct 16, 2016 |

If it works like the bonus multiplier that Overkill and Very Hard have, it's a straight * 1.5 on top of the other headshot multipliers. It'll make things more bearable but you will still need specs into Berserker to get decent damage.

Yeah, changes to armor or headshot multipliers don't address the underlying problems with raw increases in enemy health, damage, and accuracy (accuracy being especially puzzling).

That 50% HS change looks like a arbitrary place holder till they do a lot more fine tuning with the other elements like raw incoming damage and health.

I wouldn't say arbitary, but band-aid fix, yeah. They did just deliver a ten day content drop and mutators (etc) are buggy as hell. I'm sure they need to regroup and do some QA catchup before tackling a comprehensive fix on the balance. For all we know, of course, Jules isn't the only person to blame but he's a convenient figurehead. speaking of which is there a source for him saying he didn't like the concept of "a meta" (in regards to balance) or something, because I heard this but it was never sourced. I looked up the Q&A stream which I had previously just scanned the notes for - Jules never mentions disliking the concept of a meta, he was talking about trying to make every weapon viable. Trying to make it so the top 3 weapons weren't the CAR-4, Loco, and Thanatos and were 50% of the userbase's loadout. Remind me not to read Q&A stream notes written by a salty Steam forums idiot. Actually, no, you shouldn't have to remind me.

Pre-rebalance meta was really bad. Post-housewarming meta is almost as bad. At least we had a good run.

The meta prior to Housewarming was probably somewhat better thanks to the skill tree revamp, but if you didn't figure out that shotguns and Anarchist were significantly better in a build than basically anything else, I don't know what to tell you. Even with the skill rebalance, a number of trees were (and remain) terrible: Controller, Sharpshooter, Ammo Specialist, Engineer (after fixes), half of Breacher, and most of Relentless. The meta might have seemed better because it was more forgiving of suboptimal choices, but you can't pretend that choices were balanced in relation to one another.

I'm not saying that it was perfect but I could pick any weapon, build a spec around it, and be viable. Like, yeah, there will always be a few things that will be at least one step ahead of the curve but what matters is if you can take the others and still perform well. pre-rebalance was a lot more lenient than I give it credit for but there were essentially 3 or 4 builds. The pre-housewarming era wasn't perfect, and could definitely use more tweaking but at least it wasn't to the point were weapons below 80 damage are unusable. I agree completely with your last sentence though, but I can't pretend that there's anything about it that's agreeable.

I pretty much entirely agree with this. The post-rebalance, pre-Crimefest 2016 was pretty good in terms viability. Most weapons (while not optimal) were at least viable - there were maybe half a dozen that were Truly poo poo and the rest at least had niche appeal to build a gimmick around. Most skill sets were at least semi-viable if you focused on that tree and complimented it well. There were balance issues still, but there was variety and you could make a lot of gimmicks work. Pre-rebalance? Weapons were mostly relegated to 'worse version of the CAR-4' and entire weapon classes were poo poo. Skill builds boiled down to a team of Masterforcers, maybe a Techforcer or a suit Fugimind running Rogue or Grinder just to be different. God forbid you did something crazy like focus on Jokers or turrets or tripmines - those were literal jokes. Post-Crimefest? Half the weapons in the game are worthless (more than that - even the 80 damage guns are struggling and you don't get into Good territory until you pass 100), armor is often an active detriment and health regen/recovery is suicidal (reducing viable perk decks to 2-3), and entire skill trees and weapon classes are poo poo. We're in the adjustment period right now, but the way things are trending is that there's going to end up being (again) only 2-3 builds that are even usable above Overkill. Then there's the bows, but that's kinda a separate problem. The whole thing seems hugely untested and almost unthought about. Again, One Down being difficult and requiring optimization, fine, you expect that to be difficult as poo poo. It's the Overkill->Mayhem jump that really gets me. Normal->Hard->Very Hard->Overkill, you deal with fairly minor increases in difficulty. Your biggest jump is when Tans show up and there it's a leap of maybe double the HP. Then Overkill->Mayhem and suddenly everything's got 3-5x the health, plus the increased damage. I can't figure out how you could even look at that on paper and go 'yeah, that seems like good scaling'.

This timeline is off. Pre-rebalance, weapons were not all as bad as everyone claimed and you could use basically all of the 40-damage assault rifles without having trouble. Rogue and Crook were both good when the first showed up, and Grinder was incredibly good when it was released. Dodge builds had a bad rep, but that was entirely because of idiots who were incapable of understanding how dodge builds work. Jokers, turrets, and tripmines have always been trash. They were back then, they are now. The only time turrets weren't bad was when they were broken. Under current conditions, most perk decks are entirely usable through Mayhem, and probably DW if you try hard.
