Here in Hong Kong I pay $12.89 for unlimited 3G per month (no contract). American prices are insane.

Yeah, Wind's cheap plans are actually an illusion, because their network is so loving terrible. Rogers might have offensively bad customer service and be the literal satan of telecom, but their network is top notch.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's incredibly dumb, but I vaguely remember someone (fishmech?!) pulling sizes of entire game system libraries out in this thread before, was hoping someone had that knowledge sitting front and center in their brain

I'm sure if you whittle it down to strictly PSP games that are good and worth playing, it's not very big at all.

Also I love how everyone's answer to needing lots of space is "piracy!"

I dunno, I don't do anything exceptionally strange with my phone, but I've nearly filled up a 32GB 6P. It's mostly podcasts, music, and a handful of games. I do this because I have (somewhat) limited data and it's easy to pin something in Play Music. Also, it's easy to fill up a phone with games nowadays. If I had like, The Walking Dead, KOTOR, and Hearthstone installed, that'd probably approach ~4GB of storage right there.

At about 12gb free on my 32GB 5x, I don't really see 32GB being super viable on the Pixel. 4k video, pictures, double system partition size, and caching music and podcasts due to Fi. The extra $100 is worth not having to worry about storage at all in the future, given I have no idea what new cool poo poo will be out in the next 2-3 years.

Netflix is rumoured to be launching an offline mode before the end of the year. Amazon already does offer offline use of prime and so do a few premium channels like Starz and Epix.

At some point in the past it was something on the order of a terabyte. Games like lumines are around 50-200mb, but later games are over a gb.

I remember playing with the various rippers so I could leave my UMDs at home, replacing files with dummies to reduce file size, removing padding, applying translation or undub patches...

Yeah, that's a great feature for watching movies/TV shows on airplanes. I bought a cheapie Kindle Fire tablet solely for that purpose and then Amazon ported the off-line mode to its apps on other platforms.

What?

Yeah I just downloaded games because I was in high school and piracy was "cool", that sounds like way too much work.

Also whatever estimate there is for the psp library is going to be highly variable because you had ISOs which is what games normally came as well as CSOs, which was basically the same thing but only took up 2/3rds of the space or so. I spent a lot of time with my old psp, they're great little emulation boxes.

Uh, I mean

Android, lol

Storage space chat: My only significant usage, besides just installed apps, is down to PocketCast (and probably other podcast apps) not supporting 1.5x speed when streaming, so every podcast I subscribe to is downloaded and not deleted until I listen to it. If I dont listen to any for a little while it turns in to multiple gigs worth. I've got about 12gb right now.

Google Photos and Spotify cover me otherwise.

Trying to choose between a OnePlus3, Pixel, and an Axon 7. Mostly use my phone for texting, listening to podcasts during my commute, getting directions and some social media apps. I mostly want good battery life, followed closely by reliability/updates. I don't think I've ever had my Nexus 5 last a whole day unless I barely turned it on at all but I love that I can still use it just fine three years after I bought it. I'd be willing to pay the extra cost of a Pixel if it means I can use it for three years. Rarely play games except for non taxing stuff like Pixel Dungeon or Hoplite. Very rarely watch videos.

I also hate branding on the front of a phone and glossy cases so I ruled out the Honor 8.

I mean, the Pixel is the obvious #1 choice here if you can afford it. It is the newest, and will most certainly get updates the longest of the three. Past that, I would personally go with the Axon over the OP3 from just what I've read, and having handled the Axon. Debating replacing my 6P with an Axon, but the camera quality is giving me pause and the display models at my local Best Buy weren't charged when I stopped in.

Battery life is a myth, dehumanize yourself and face to bloodshed a battery pack/good wall charger (they'll probably all do a day comfortably with your use case).

That is entirely subjective. No, it's not ideal, but I've played through some old handheld console games on emulators on my phone and had fun doing it. Is it perfect? No. Good enough? Yep. Do I want to carry around an old gameboy or something with me like some sort of hyper-nerd just in case I fancy a quick game of something? gently caress no.

And besides that, there are plenty of small, very pocketable bluetooth gamepads on the market for Android, with analogue sticks. Nobody said enough about how they were controlling these games.

Still very happy with the one I got. You'll need to use a cable with C to C connectors for fast charging on a Type C device though.

Which makes you a bigger nerd: carrying around an old Game Boy or insisting on playing children's toys at all times such that you carry a lovely gamepad to do so rather than playing the many many many games built for the platform and its limitations instead?
