You could also look up the older CSM assault arms. They're all designed to be older marks of armor, so while not exactly mkIII they don't look super out-of-place in 30k.

Am right in thinking the Space Wolf hero in the Prospero box has a lightning claw and a powersword? What would be the point of that? The only thing I can think of if the sword is a Paragon Blade or something and the lightning claw as a specialist weapon is giving +1 attack, but that doesn't seem super economical.

Looks like a combat blade. GW isn't really big on the whole economical thing when it comes to designing minis. At any rate, should be rather easy to swap out the combat blade for a thunder hammer.

So it looks the rules of the board game for Prospero are different from Betryal at Calth. Which is a shame. I thought the BaC rules were solid and i've actually played them several times with friends. I'd like to have seen them keep them so you could mix them up, maybe even use the board tiles together.

Well I suppose we could always just houserule unit rules for them.

My Reaver Chieftain / Praevian has a powerfist + combat blade because it's metal as gently caress and has zero impact rules wise.

I can't tell if having SRM's army so close by is encouraging, giving me something to work towards, or discouraging, because in the time that I have painted 8 marines and a Rhino he's finished at least one, maybe two entire armies...

Is there a Dark Angels 30k resource I can look at for heraldry, color schemes, etc? Some of the Calth / Prospero stuff is a weird fit for Emperor's Children and sure why not black Dark Angels...

Black armor, silver trims and red bolters/heraldry.

I was hoping for something a little more exhaustive. For instance, I'd like to know exactly what's going on with this guy's shoulder:

Or markings unique to the *wing, etc.

They haven't really been covered yet so there's not a whole lot out there. Absolutely nothing about the different wings beyond the two Rites of War. A couple of color panels in book VI is about it. Here's some tiny versions of them:

So, basically, black armor, silver trim, red and white spot colors, and checker patterns. I've been varying knee pad and elbow pad colors (black, silver, green, red) here and there to add a little more variety. I've also been doing some basic heraldry on the right shoulder pads. Stripes, crosses, more checker patterns, etc. It's fun, but can take a good chunk of time if you want the lines even. To be honest, I found the black scheme very limiting after painting dark green for so long. Can't really shade black. :v: All of the little details really add to the scheme and the final results are great. Have a crappy cellphone picture:

I still miss green though; I'm foolishly painting some Tyranids right now to get that out of my system.

Oh, excellent thanks! I didn't know if the Deathwing events happened before or after the Heresy - it was (IIRC) a Genestealer purge, and humanity didn't meet them until much later, but this stuff gets retconned all the time.

HH era Dark Angels wear all black as a special mark of loyalty to the Emperor (same reason as Black Templars doing it later). No idea why they changed to green after their planet had a gas leak and exploded.

I want to say it was because of their SECRET SHAME, but I don't know if I actually read that anywhere.

Plus 30k DA would make pretty rad 40k Fallen.

Um I'm fairly certain the Dark Angels are and were the best, most loyal legion and any reference to secret shame is just slander from other legions who are jealous of acid bullets and spotting opponents d3 victory points.

Yeah, all of the color changes, including the Deathwing's, happened after the Heresy. They'd be in black armor too. Everyone is. In fact, the Deathwing kept the black armor until that genestealer cult thing when they changed to bone.

Right now the various wings are named, but two are still mysteries.
* Deathwing - Terminators, veterans (?)
* Ravenwing - Bikes, jetbikes, flyers, land speeders
* Ironwing - Mechanized infantry, tanks, and dreadnoughts
* Dreadwing - Destroyers, a bunch of esoteric and forbidden weaponry
* Stormwing - ??? Supposedly something to do with boarding actions and assault marines
* Firewing - ???

The idea is that the Dark Angels were the prototype legion and as such their organization contains elements and tactics that can be seen in all of the other subsequent legions. The wings themselves exist outside of the normal chain of command and if one is activated in a battlezone, the dudes affiliated with it split from their normal units and gather together to do whatever needs doing. Personally, I'm most interested in seeing the Dreadwing expanded, but Destroyers need some help to make something like that viable. I'm working towards an Ironwing list as my first real goal; mechanized suits my play style, but that Rite of War is very limiting. I'd totally do a Ravenwing army if plastic jetbikes existed.

Given most of the Terran marines sided with Luther that actually makes a lot of sense for why they turned entirely green.
