They've ceded most of an entire generation, every nonwhite demographic and now a massive chunk of the female vote. They cannot rebrand, that already failed. They can't pivot, the idiot base will devour themselves. And the groups that they've alienated will never even entertain the idea of voting R again. All this while their hateful supporters die off and are not replaced. The GOP will live another few decades as a rump party with governorships and state level control in poo poo states filled with bigots, but they're done on a national scale. They'll never wash off the stench of being the Party of Trump.

Oh and the most critical component that's delayed it this long is gerrymandering, which Obama has already said will be his focus moving forward.

It is, once again, just a fundamental flaw of their whole shtick. Conservatism cannot fail it can only be failed. Trump failed conservatism by losing.

This is exactly what they're going to do. We're going to hear the same poo poo we always have. "America can't take 4, 8 more years of this. Socialism is gonna take over! Blah blah blah". Again a very likpatous story
How to tell Trump lost badly last night: Scott Adams admits Clinton won and doesn't defend Trump as much as usual.

quote:

I watched the third and most boring presidential debate last night. Here are my thoughts.

Clinton’s goal was to stay vertical for ninety minutes and sound more well-informed than Trump while framing him as an unstable monster. She accomplished all of that and won the debate, in my opinion.

But it wasn’t a big win.

Trump only needed to act semi-presidential, and he did. We don’t expect him to have the same mastery of the facts. The bar is lower for the outsider. He needed a knockout punch but there was none.

Persuasion-wise, the most emotionally powerful moments involved Clinton describing Trump as a sexist/racist monster who can’t be trusted with the nuclear codes. “Scary” was the only message she needed to drive home, and she did.

Ask Clinton voters why they prefer her over Trump and few people will mention the economy or any specific policies. Almost everyone will mention Trump’s “temperament” or alleged racism/sexism. Those were the only variables that mattered. Clinton reinforced those messages and Trump did little or nothing to counter them. The rest of the debate and all of the policy questions were largely irrelevant to persuasion.

Trump mentioned Clinton’s various scandals involving email, Wikileaks, and pay-for-play. But the public assumes all career politicians trade favors and say things in private that they wouldn’t say in public. The public also expects some dirty tricks out of campaigns. The Wikileaks attacks are toothless so far. So toothless that Clinton’s “Russia did it” defense is good enough (for a debate) even though it is ridiculous.

The biggest buzz from the debate seems to be Trump’s refusal to say in advance that he would accept the election results if they went against him. The pro-Clinton pundits are framing that as another example of Trump’s terribleness. But of course it is nothing but Trump keeping all of his options open as he does in every other situation when he can. He wants to maintain the right to complain later if the result looks rigged to him. That seems reasonable to me, and no real danger to the Republic. But the Clinton-friendly parts of the media will make it a thing this week.

If you want a reason to be worried, ask yourself why the mainstream media is so keen on framing the election as “not rigged.” The message I’m getting from them, collectively, is that they think it will be. (Because it will be.) We just don’t know how much the rigging will matter.

Why do I say it will be rigged?

Because whenever humans have motive, opportunity, a high upside gain, and low odds of detection, shenanigans happen 100% of the time. Our vote-counting systems have plenty of weak spots. Rigging (to some degree) is a near guarantee.

And keep in mind that Team Clinton has framed Trump as the next Hitler. That gives every citizen moral cover to do outrageous things to stop him. The stakes are sky-high. In this environment, it would truly be a miracle to have an unrigged election. But again, we don’t know how much rigging there will be. It might not be enough to matter.

There will almost certainly be election rigging for the same reason there has been debate rigging. If you don’t believe me about debate rigging, ask a woman who did some of that debate rigging herself. Allegedly. Unless it was Russia’s fault.

The "ask a woman who did some of that debate rigging" statement linked to something I didn't click, I don't think it's referring to Hillary though.

You know there's a difference between herpes simplex v1 and v2, right? V2 (that generally causes genital herpes) is not nearly as common as v1 (which is what causes cold sores around the mouth). And even then its not as common as you're making it seem. There's around 40 million Americans with v2 as opposed to 100 million with v1 out of aprox. 320 million total.

Maybe you were thinking of HPV, which actually is around 70% of all Americans affected?

That said, if the Democrats manage to curtail gerrymandering, it probably is over for the republicans.

Systemically the Republican agenda just doesn't appeal to a majority of voters nationwide, and hasn't for a long time. They've been able to cover the gap with aggressive gerrymandering and voting restrictions, but that's not a sustainable long-term strategy.

trump isn't the core of trumpism. he's just the current figurehead of anti-establishment politics. breitbart, milo, limbaugh - these people are, for their other faults, good communicators and rhetoricians (?) who can compete in the right wing nutsphere. trump is not a good communicator, he has nonsensical ideas, and he has very little value outside of being crazy and with a lot of money on paper. he's also committed one of the cardinal sins of fringe politics, putting yourself up for a referendum and losing, thus demonstrating you are a loser and your opinions are unpopular

plus, think about it from trump's perspective - the only reason he's doing all this is to recieve adulation. once he loses the election it wont be as fun anymore, and the question is if a 70 year old attention junkie has the stamina (lol) to keep up this pace. right now imo trump is visibly torn between wanting the attention and wanting it to be over, so there's a real possibility he himself withdraws from the public eye to lick his wounds after election day and decides to stay out of the public eye to punish the public for failing to recognize his brilliance

I'm going to cut against the conventional wisdom and say that Trump's post-election media operation is going to flop and have trouble finding an audience. First, every business he touches turns to poo poo, and we've seen over the course of the last year that his brain is slowly transforming into tapioca. Second, after November he'll be a loser. Trump's entire appeal is that he's a big shot who gets things done and winning winner who wins. His whole alpha male dominance routine will be shattered by getting beaten by 10 million votes in a historic loss to a girl. Who is going to pay a monthly fee to watch a losing loser (who lost) talk whine how he woulda shoulda won that crooked rigged election?

Trump best play would be to convince other investors (maybe gullible foreigners) to fund his network, pay himself an inflated salary and licensing fee, and walk away rich when the network collapses into rubble a year or two later. But even that looks like a longshot - given what's been exposed over the last year about how Trump does business and treats his partners, who would invest a single nickle into anything this guy is doing?

Finally, there have been many efforts to try and build a right-wing news/advocacy network in recent years, and they've all fizzled. Sarah Palin? Glen Beck? Pajamas Media? Even the older RWM institutions (FoxNews, Limbaugh and his imitators) are having to deal with shrinking audiences. The time to launch a right-wing network was 10-20 years ago, not now. The market will support a new Trump-branded RWM network about as well as it will a new nationwide dial-up ISP.

They think they're under attack by propaganda and totalitarian, fascist socialists who are just like HitlerI and seem to be completely oblivious to the the reality that they are the ones who are, in fact, embracing those things.
